No More Anti-Anxiety Meds!
Thursday, July 31, 2014
As a 29-year-old, I have been on and off anti-anxiety medications and anti-depressants since my Sophomore year of college, just about 10 years now. The reasons behind the need for such medication range from dealing with my bisexuality to disordered body image and eating. Getting back into shape as I prepare for my wedding this coming November, I was hoping that an exercise routine I could stick to would not only help me physically, but mentally as well.
I was right.
Just about a month ago I started training with a personal trainer for the first time. I needed someone to help keep me accountable so I wouldn't excuse myself from getting exercise into my busy schedule. We've been working out together 3-4 times a week and, as the intensity of the workouts increased, I tried a bit of an experiment. I started weaning myself off my anti-anxiety meds.
Today marks 2 weeks off my meds and I've never felt better! No panic attacks to speak of, my stress level is way down -- even with a spike of activity at my day job -- and I'm looking forward to all of the positive things this means for my future!
