Blast Shopping

Thursday, July 24, 2014

I was asked to blog about this, so this is a start: We all have busy days where we find it hard to get in some cardio time. I do what I call Blast Shopping, I get my exercise done combined with my shopping. I have my list in my mind that I need to pick up, I know exactly where they are. So I go in grab a cart, head straight for the produce section, grap and go, then head to the dairy dept, again grab and go, never stopping but pushing the cart as I go. Next I go up and down the isles, going back to front of store, grab what I need from the shelf and never stop, pick it up on the run. I do mean I do not stop for anything. Actually can work up a sweat if I am in long enough. The items I purchase there is no doubt as to price comparison, they are preferred and no substitutions. So grab on the go and on to the next item. Only stop when I get in the check out. I do push myself and usually only do this when I am in a tight time crunch. Today was one of those days, only 15 minutes, but I do start to feel it in my leg muscles. This is how, I combine need for exercise and store errand otherwise I might not be able to get to both and the thing most likely to go will be the exercise. Sort of a task turned into exercise. Usually these are just the basic items that are needed until I have the time to do a proper shopping trip.

When I see a blockage of people in an isle, I quickly turn around and get what I need from another section and if I need to get some thing in that isle, I return after a few minutes of other shopping. I will admit once in a while I will have to stop, for those times, I grab my handbag, head to the spot I need and get what I need and return to my cart. The whole point is to do everthing I can to keep moving as a fast pace. Sometimes you can not help but get stopped for some reason, of course large isles helps, but between gossiping people and kids out of control, sometimes a pause is necessary, then off I go to continue my quest. Either way, I usually work up a gentle sweat and that is what I am going for, some work out sweat.

Might have to try this one, too....altho the little store I usually shop at has really narrow aisles and I can't tell you how many times I've had to come to a complete stop and stand there and wait because there will be a gaggle of gossipy ladies standing there blocking the aisle and talking....and they do not move for love nor money. It is so danged irritating. LOL

    good morning,
your is the blog after mine today, so i thought i would stop and offer a hug message to a fellow sparker.
I think how you've combined both activities is fabulous. i have unintentionally done exactly as you described going through the store, though usually it was because i was late and HAD to get it done and done fast.
and you;re right you do feel it in your legs
excellent that you knew enough to plan in advance for your time crunch.
Thanks so much for your blog and for being a Sparker.
    All the best
