Once a nerd, always a nerd!

Tuesday, July 22, 2014

I have been trying to find the ideal number of calories which I need to eat to keep me in maintenance. It's been a matter of experiment so far! But I did find this way to calculate how many calories a person needs to maintain his basal metabolism. I feel that a person should never eat below this amount, as there is a danger of the body eating muscle tissue for nourishment. We don't want that to happen! If you want to try this out, here is how to do it:

BMR= 655 + (4.3 x weight in lbs.) + (4.7 x height in inches) - (4.7 x age in years)

Example: BENE weighs 157 lbs today, is 68 inches tall, and is 76 years old. What is BENE's BMR? 655 + (4.3 x 157) + (4.7 x 68) - (4.7 x 76) =1292.5. BENE should not eat below 1292.5 calories and can add some depending on her activity level. Yep, a little nerdy, but I think it is valuable!
