Towards & Away From Motivation

Renee Stephens wrote a very powerful book called "Full Filled" where she talks about "diets" and our ongoing relationship with food. One of her ideas that has really stuck with me is about "away-from" and "towards" motivation.
It's pretty easy to think of reasons to "move away" from being overweight: I look fat; I have health conditions; I don't like how people look at me. I want to get away from all of those negative things in my life . . . Well, Renee proposes that our motivation will be stronger if we also think in terms of something positive that we are moving towards.
I saw this quote today and it reminded me of what I had learned in her book:
so I spent my walk today thinking of away-from & towards motivators.
*I am moving away from a potential future of diabetes.
*I am moving towards becoming a healthy/fit person who is able to take the stairs without being winded.
*I am moving away from fat clothes.
*I am moving towards fashionable, comfortable clothes that are flattering for my slim figure.
*I am moving towards eating the right amount of food that nourishes me.
When I have the "both/and" mentality, I know that it strengthens my resolve. Getting healthier with every step . . .
