I love animals, and I could talk all day about the trip to the Zoo... wait, don't leave!
I will try to keep it to the highlights. I will attach a bunch of photos to the bottom of this, so if you are interested in just the goods, feel free to head straight there.
A little girl, maybe 5 years old walked up to the meerkat exhibit and started singing the opening lines from "The Circle Of Life", so adorable!
There were 3, adorable, baby Chimpanzee's! They were so cute to watch, and watching the mommy's interact with their babies was a sight to see.
The giraffe's were super cute as well.
There were also nursing babies in the Chacoan Peccary exhibit. It was impossible to get a good pic, because they were blending in with the mommy. And yes, I had to take a picture of the sign to remember what they were called. ;)
There was a lowland anoa (I will have to find out her name next time) and her sign said she was under veterinary care, she has arthritis in her right knee. When I told her I had arthritis in my knees too, she turned and looked at me.
We sat on a bench to have a snack, and a bird crapped on my head for the first time in my life. It was funny. I didn't even realize it was on my head at first, because it spattered onto my hand and leg. I swear the bird laughed about it, and stood around as I cleaned myself off. Then when I finally went to take his picture he flew off. Too funny!
The lions and tiger were sleeping, and the black bear was hiding, but I have to say I don't blame them.
I made the mistake of reading why the elephant at the zoo (Billy) was bobbing his head, and it was not a good result. I now feel so bad for that elephant. It is one of those things where "once you know, you can't not know" and I wish now that I hadn't googled about that. I will continue to go to the Zoo, because whether I go or not, he will still be there (poor guy), but I will definitely be viewing him differently now that I am more educated on the issue. Here's Billy and I:
Overall I had a great time, and we walked 4.5 miles according to my fitbit! Not only that, but I had to walk Sparky later that night and we went 1.5 miles, so 6 miles total. Here is the OUTSTANDING news: I woke up this morning and my knees are not only feeling fine, the swelling I had the last two days has gone away. What?! Maybe the activity and getting stronger is helping me to combat the flareups. I did not ride my bike yesterday because if I did end up with swollen painful knees today, I wanted to be able to know it was from the walking and not from the bike. Today I will get on my bike and just work on short sessions a couple times a day until I can get stronger.
My weigh in was also today, and I know everyone hates when we say we ONLY lost a pound. I know a pound is great, and it makes me happy that I am moving in the right direction. I just felt that I deserved a little more this week. But I did lose 4 pounds last week, so I know I can't complain. To reach my Disneyland goal I need to average 1.4 pounds a week, so hopefully I can hit it. I will be devastated if I can't reach it for some reason.
Since restarting on the 19th of May, I am 16/17 for the good days, which means my rubber band ball has 16 rubber bands and is growing! :)
for stopping by my blog. The support means more to me than you all will ever know!
