What Are Your Daily Rituals?

Friday, May 16, 2014

When I decided to begin my weight loss journey I had no idea where to start so I turned to two of my friends who are both personal trainers for help and guidence. One of the most valuable things I learned from them was if you want to change anything in your life you need to first take a look at your daily rituals or daily routine because whether we are concious of it or not our ritals determine our results. For example, before I began a weight loss program I would start my day by hitting the snooze button on my alarm several times while my two friends would quickly hit their alarm button and hop out of bed to put on their workout clothes and shoes. They would eat some type of protein and head off to the gym. I on the other hand would sleep in and tell myself that I would workout that afternoon, but when the afternoon would arrive I would be too tired and would think to myself that I would just get up out of bed in the morning most definitely and exercise, but I usually didn't...does this sound familiar? Then I would wondered why I wasn't acheiving any real success when it came to losing weight. Now armed with this knowledge I started studying them to see what their daily rituals regarding health and wellness were and I learned that they carried bottle water with them everywhere they went along with a snack bag incase there weren't any healthy choices of snacks where they would be. They also had a "To Do List or Goal List" for each day. They wouldn't stop until they had crossed off each goal for that day. They both would make out meal plans for each week so they would know a head of time what they would be preparing for all meals and snacks so not to be tempted to eat something unhealthy. When eating out at a restaurant they would pull the menu up online and pick out the most healthiest food items before arriving at the restaurant and once there they wouldn't look at the menu so not to be tempted to change their minds and end up ordering something fattening unless it was their cheat day. They would assign a cheat day each week so they wouldn't feel deprived and on that day they would eat whatever they wanted without guilt. They would ask the waitress or waitor to bring them a carry out plate before they began to eat their meal and would box up half of what was on their plates to cary home with them to be eaten later or the next day. They also ate 5 to 6 small meals a day to fend off hunger and to keep their blood sugars in a normal range. Their fitness routines would change every 4 to 6 weeks to avoid plateaus. They talked about muscle confusion and how to keep your body from getting used to your workout routine by making sure to change your exercise routines every 4 to 6 weeks. It also helps to keep you from getting bored with your routines and causing you to quit all together. Once I ditched my daily rituals and adopted theirs is when I started experiencing success with losing weight and continue to have success. So I ask you, what are your daily rituals and are they helping you get the results you are looking for?
