What's an "Easy" Workout? (Day 74 of 100)

I did an 'easy' workout today working my glutes and a little stretching. In 32 minutes, I only burned 125 calories. emoticon

But, yesterday's comments had me questioning what I've been doing. I know you are supposed to have 'easy' days and 'hard' days. But, I think that about 90% of my workouts are hard. I almost always push myself really hard. When I was running, I would run 3 days a week. But, during each run I was pushing myself pretty hard. So, maybe I need to learn how to do 'easy' workouts?

So, what's an 'easy' workout? What's an 'easy' run? If I can run at an 11:00 pace for 3 miles, is it running at a 12:00 pace? But then I'm worried that my body will get used to it.

If you have thoughts on what makes up an 'easy workout', I'd love to hear it! I think I need to find more balance.

    There are a lot of great pace calculators that will give you your "easy" pace, or long run pace depending on a recent race time. I think you are definitely on to something here especially because you have gone through some nagging little injuries...you DO need to take it easy sometimes and give your body a chance to heal from the hard efforts and in preparation of the NEXT hard effort!

    I've read some articles that say that running slower sometimes is actually good for your overall pace? Don't ask me how! Maybe not slowing down a whole minute/ mile, but even 30 seconds can be good.. or an easier route? If you are taking rest days and you have variety in your workouts, I don' t know if any one has to be 'easy', but maybe more for your mental outlook? I took it easier today, just didn't go as hard and modified some moves and I'm glad I did! enjoy your journey!

    An easy run for me is when I don't really go for a pace at all. It's an easy pace. It can be whatever I feel like that day. Audiobooks help me have easy runs, personally. I listened to them on my long runs when I was training for my last half to keep the pace nice and easy.

    I consider yoga and some pilates to be an easy workout, but they can be hard workouts. It really depends on your intensity. I've never tried Jillian's Yoga Meltdown but I hear it's intense.

    I consider an 'easy' run to be a run where I don't push myself. My pace differs every time..depends on my energy level..but if I did the 'talk' test...I'd be able to talk full sentances easily. emoticon

    I think we all forget about rest. Rest is just as, if not more, important than the workouts. Your body needs time to recover. I was also guilty of always going hard. I figured if I was working out I wanted to feel it. I did more damage to my body than good. Do something different. Try yoga or something like that to help stretch out your muscles. I don't know what you have access to so not sure what to suggest. An easy workout could be a walk, like an active rest. I used to go for walks and wear my HRM and keep in Z1 or Z2 the whole time. It's harder than you think.
