Trying Self Help
Saturday, May 03, 2014
When I was 10 I was given my first diary. It had a lock and key... was hard bound and striped in blue, yellow and orange. I named it "Dinah" thinking that if I wrote as if I was writing to a friend it would be easier.
It was the beginning of a life-time of journaling.
Over the years I have acquired quite a variety of journals in paper, wood, leather and cloth. Some of them have never had one word written in them. Others read like the rantings of a lunatic because my "best" and most consistent writings come from my lowest points in life. Days and months of depression, self loathing and suicidal droning.
I go through these books and rip out the pages as therapy. What once was important, now is plucked and discarded like the weeds each word represents. Other journals are matched with books of story prompts that assist with writing a memoir or self help therapy sessions.
One I set aside is called "40 Days and 40 Nights; Taking Time Out For Self-Discovery, A Guided Journal." The author writes that if you wish to make a change in your life intentional and be successful, this book will support that change. Through a series of prompts you are lead on your journey. It looks like in the adjoining paged journal I started with the first 1 of 40, but never went any further. I have never been very good with self-help books.
However, discovery of this books has me considering using this books as a prompt for my blog writings around my weight loss journey. It would give me something to consider writing about daily and support me (as it states it will) through this next stage of my weight loss.
Couldn't hurt to give it a shot.
