How I EASILY lost 11 pounds in 10 days- It might work for you too!

Saturday, April 19, 2014

If you read my blog yesterday- you know I have been gone for 3 years. Well a lot has gone on ( read that blog if you are curious it has been an AMAZING 3 years!) and I am back, I started tracking again 10 days ago and I have lost 11 pounds and I am not starving myself. Nor an I exercising excessively like I did 3 years ago. And SURPRISE SURPRISE...it working BETTER than my original diet regimen.

And the secret is simple. I took a look at what I was eating and realized I didn't know what half the stuff WAS. EVen some things that looked pretty healthy- like "organic" etc really had a buncha crap preserving it.

So I decided to give myself a set of rules I could live with as a loose guideline. I'm not a rule kinda girl- even if "I" and the one imposing them. So whatever I do needs to be quick, easy and do-able.

I cut out CHEMICALS! If I can't pronounce it- much less tell you what it is..It doesn't go in my mouth.

WHen I get a hankering for something to eat, I try this to see if I am REALLY hungry...or of I might be dehydrated- or bored ( I have a hand to mouth thing I do when boredom strikes!) I blend 20 ice cubes with water. THen I drain the water off and eat the fluffy ice like a snow cone, minus the syrupy calories. It not only counts towards my water intake for the day. It helps with the hand to mouth thing. Better yet- it lowers my body temp so my metabolism has to work harder to KEEP ME WARM! (can you say burning calories with no exercise?)

I try to eat water dense foods like salad , non starchy veggie and fruits ( melon is great) I can eat till my tummy feel full for a fraction of the calories on these kinds of foods. Head to costco and get a 3 pack of cantaloupe and one of those big bags of frozen mixed veggies. I like the one that has carrots, peas, green beans and corn- but there are several and whatever floats you boat will do!!

I added 2 yakults ( healthy probiotics) to my daily diet ... you can use kefir or other cultured dairy but I am not a yogurt kind of girl most of the time- so yakult is an easy way for me to keep that gut happy & full of healthy bacteria!

I walk at least a mile a day with my dog. She is old and sleeps most of the time and I am convinced that these daily walks keep her alive, alert and interested. ANd it does me good. And I have found that once we get moving- we tend to move a little more that the mile I set as the baseline. Not only am I losing weight...she seems to be able to walk for longer periods and her appetite is better.

And I LOG EVERYTHING! If I am not near a computer I have a notepad and I WRITE it down! if I am a good girl and I find I am under 1000 calories with snacks lunch and breakfast. I allow myself a treat for happy hour. It can be wine...sometimes cheese and crackers..sometimes fruit. But that's my reward for being good. ANd then I can budget a healthy dinner that falls within my calories.

Oh - I'm also not hung up on freaking out if I go over my cals for the day by 100 or 200. - especially if I feel like I got in good exercise or gardening that day. It seems to be working MUCH better than when I was killing myself with 3 hours a day of exercise. And it's easy to do.

But if I had to put it all in a nutshell
30 min mild exercise a day
8 glasses of water a day
NO chemicals
LOG Everything

How easy is this? If you can;t do these simple things- you might need to love yourself a little more. Just saying.....

emoticon On the 11 pounds gone!

I could stand to do without chemicals, but have the other things down pretty well.

Getting some tests done to see about a medical issue, that may contribute to some things going on, including my lack of weight loss.
Chin up and keepin' on keepin' on.

Thanks for the common sense approach and great to have you back.

Wow! Do we share a brain? In my long absence I did this exact same thing as a spiritual journey. It was all about my body being God's vessel. Anyway, I dedicated a couple of months to it and found that this was the absolute best thing for me to have control and start losing weight. I focused on 1. LOGGING - biggest difference 2. increase in activity without going wild 3. beverages of water, water, water and tea, tea, tea! No scales until the end of my journey when I was so pleasantly surprised. Now to find that pathway again.........

First of all, congratulations on the path your music has taken you, and kudos on all the hard work!
I totally understand the regain of weight as I worked really hard to lose what I gained over 11 years sitting on my butt at a 911 console and eating voraciously to assuage the feelings I was internalizing over the mortality under my nose every day. I had finally gotten to a weight that felt good even though it was still too much. That was last summer, and I guess I should mention that those last 6 pounds came off via food poisoning. Anyway, I was feeling pretty good. Since then I have gained back to where I was 3 years ago. So, disappointing as well as depressing, but totally my own fault. I had gotten so tired of logging what went into my mouth that I decided a vacation was what was needed. Now, almost 20 lbs heavier I realize what a mistake that had been.
You sound so positive and upbeat about your new beginning with logging food and I am happy for you.
It is always helpful to hear what people are eating. And so glad you mentioned the wine. I have about 3 to 4 oz every day before dinner and didn't want to give that up.
Please keep blogging so I can see how you are doing and what you are eating. It gives me a lift for sure and I really need it.
    Thanks from Montana!
