Couture? Alexander McQueen? How did that happen?

Saturday, April 05, 2014

Spark People (and many other websites) have targeted ads. I am familiar with getting pop-up ads for fairly low-budget clothing for plus-sized women. Sometimes if I look up something on the Internet I will get an ad for that---I did some research about 7 months ago into a Holiday Inn in Paris that a member of my BLC-team was visiting. The Holiday Inn in Paris kept popping up on my page for a couple of weeks inviting me to stay there (I really would have if I could have!)

So today, I suddenly get ads for Alexander McQueen "handbags" that cost northwards of $5,000. And on the other side of the page a place called "Couture" wants me to visit. To the very best of my knowledge, I did nothing to trigger these ads. I did not visit any unusual web sites. I did not buy any clothing.

I am bemused a very very vaguely flattered that an Alexander McQueen algorithm popped up on my computer!

This Doctor Carrot is an image I have had for a long time; I had a small poster of it up in the kitchen when my children were young.

$5000 for a hand bag? My parents paid under $9000 (in 1955) for their house!

Don't you just love those ad algorithms? Just because I looked at that one product, one time, doesn't mean I want to look at it ad nauseum for the next 20 years. Maybe the internet believes you need totally unnecessary fashion in your life?

Love the Doctor Carrot! I started getting stuff from Nordstrom when I was looking for a dress for my son's wedding -- it was really strange

I use AdBlock Plus on Firefox and haven't seen an online ad in years!

hee, hee. Now don't go trying to figure out how to finance that purse, you need a car more! ROFL

Love to look at couture even if I would never own it and could afford it!

Congrats on being part of the jetset this week!

emoticon I guess that is what we get when we go *FREE* eh? But you would think that since you do *free* here on Sparks that the AD ppl's would realize that there is no way we could afford those handbags eh?

These pop ups although annoying are nowhere near as annoying as the relentless phone calls we get from telemarketing sales. We sometimes get 20 plus in a day - we leave them on hold until they ring off - well - if they waste my time I see no problem in wasting theirs.

Love Doctor Carrot! And the mysteries of ad placement are just that: mysteries. Be glad you're getting ads for Alexander McQueen (*sigh*) and not ads for...well, things better left unmentioned. emoticon
