WHAT DID SUSAN B. ANTHONY KNOW?
Thursday, March 20, 2014
You will remember Susan B. Anthony as a 19th Century activist for women's rights, particularly to vote. I like what she said about women of her day and ours. "Modern invention has banished the spinning wheel, and the same law of progress makes the woman of today a different woman from her grandmother." Yep! I still remember that my paternal grandmother had a spinning wheel and still knew how to card raw materials and to spin thread on the wheel. Amazing, isn't it, what progress happens in a single lifetime? And I am very different from my grandmother! One of the modern things I like best is my deep freeze. I can buy on sale, make healthy recipes, and freeze them in freezer- to- oven (or microwave) dishes. I can always have something to take out, thaw, and eat when I'm busy. Plus, frozen things are often healthier than fresh produce and are much healthier than canned! The producer gets them at their peak and freezes them without salt, and...you just don't know how long that "fresh" produce has been off the vine and how many nutrients it has lost. I do still prefer fresh fruit. I especially lilke the vegetable mixtures, because it seems to me that I am getting a variety of vitamins and minerals, as opposed to a single vegetable. What are your ideas?
