Hiking in Tonto National Forest

That was the last thing we saw of interest before we go to the road to go back to Scottsdale. My goodness what a beautiful animal. I got fairly close to it mostly not afraid because after all, they really just want to be left in peace and I made sure he had plenty of room to get away from me. But wow! Look at that tail. No rattle yet, it's early.

We arose early to get breakfast and head up the road for a Jeep tour in the Tonto National Forest. When I think of a forest, I think of this:

But instead, this is what Tonto National Forest looks like:

The trees are cactus and scrubby pines and creosote bushes and yucca.

Here's the same one with a dead cactus net to it showing its spines:

By this time it was well into the 60ºF range. You'd think it was cold or something:

And the desert does bloom, we were just a little early to see much of it.

And the view was spectacular
