HM training notes - Saturday 9-miler

Saturday, March 15, 2014

WOW!!! It was an absolutely beautiful morning for a long run! The only downside was, due to the time change, I couldn't get my run started as early as I wanted - had to wait for the sun to come up.

My long runs are taking me further and further into the hills and away from civilization. Which is wonderful, but I think in the future it will be wise of me to carry mace. The only sign of another human being that I saw this morning was someone 4-wheeling and the sounds of target shooting nearby. I'm looking forward to running even further over the next few weeks as a way to explore the next mountain range.

Here's a couple of pictures from my turn around spot. The first is looking to the south and the other is looking to the north.

Run stats for today: 9.2 miles in 1:38:33 with a 10:43 pace and a 980 ft climb.

Only 5 more weeks until my race!

    Hi Vicki
I love to see the pics you post of your runs. I would highly recommend carrying mace. I carry mine everywhere I go. I got mine off Amazon.com and I like it because it also has a UV marking dye that will stick to the person you spray it on.

Then there is the coyotes all over the place. I don't think you'd have much issue with them though. Do you ever see them on your runs? I get the impression that they really aren't afraid of people, but just sort of trot off when they see us. You never know though... if there's a pack and they're hungry seeing you running... could trigger the chase response! Be careful out there!
