So this weekend I decided to go exploring on Lake Michigan. Got up early Sunday morning - and it was snowing. Picked up a friend and pointed the car north. We were going to head to Northport and check out some lighthouses and then follow the lake south towards home.
On the way there we were driving on M22 when I notice the SUV heading south towards me was traveling too fast to navigate the curves ahead. As he entered the curves he started to slide. I pointed my car towards the shoulder of the road and nailed it hoping to escape his sliding vehicle. BANG!
Yep, he hit me. The rear of his sliding vehicle hit my back passenger door and quarter panel of the car. OUCH! All the side airbags in my car deployed. I was so MAD. Really? What was so important that he couldn't be driving a safe speed? He just ruined my day - and my car.
Then gratitude slipped in. We were not hurt. Even better, I could still drive the car, so I didn't need to get a tow two hours home. I looked at my friend and we decided to head north anyhow. No sense ruining a perfectly good, sunny day!
We drove to Northport and checked out the area. It was amazing.
I know you hear people complaining about this winter and all the crazy snow, but you must admit, it is beautiful!
We had been hearing about the ice caves in Leland. We usually don't get them on the east coast of Lake Michigan. We were going to venture out to them, but we didn't have the right gear to make the trek. There were some quite steep hills of ice to climb to get to the caves. I figure we already pushed our luck once that day and decided I didn't want to push mine twice. However, some friends did venture out. This is what they looked like.
Anyhow it turned out to be a beautiful day. We ventured out for a walk on the frozen lake at Point Betsy. We stopped and took in four different beaches and a wonderful sunset.
This week has been a challenge. My car was a total loss - so trying to coordinate buying a new car, working full time, dealing with our crazy polar vortex weather, AND getting to the gym. So far, I have been doing well with it. Not to mention the snowstorm we had Monday night, which lead to two hours of shoveling Tuesday morning with my sore shoulder!
My neck is still a little stiff, my shoulder a little sore, but been able to get in the pool and get some workouts in. Now to find a car!
Counting my blessings!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
