IF I WERE ANY MORE EXCITED I'D PEE MYSELF!

Friday, January 17, 2014

Okay well I told everyone I would give you the results from my MRI on my hip. Now you know there is always a back story with my blogs!

Before I went to get my MRI results, I had to go to my family doc to get a checkup. I walk into his office and he says happy belated birthday! As I sit in the chair, we chit chat and then he proceeds to end me a bunch of paperwork while telling me it is my lucky year. Apparently when you turn 50, you get to have a mammogram but wait I gets better.......then he says oh yes you will also need a colonoscopy! Definitely not turning out to be the pleasant visit I envisioned.

So with my mouth agog, Dr. Aiello says oh by the way did I tell you are 1/2 an inch shorter than last year.......URGH! Yet I left with a smile and a third piece of paper for my fasting blood work. Off I go to get my MRI results from the Sports Med Dr.....Fast forward to me sitting across from Dr.T who says to me "I know you are training for the IM 70.5 in June and I thought you might be over training causing hip pain and lack of external rotation but the good news is you aren't over training! Actually you have degenerative osteoarthritis in your hip wherein the cushion, labrum, between the ball and socket is completely gone!"

Holy crap twice in the same day is at with a DR. With my mouth agog, speechless again. What are the odds of that huh? Long story short, I need a total hip replacement but I am too young,so they are going to send the results to the top Sports Orthopedic Surgeon who works with The Ottawa Senators Hockey team....don't know if I should be impressed as that NHL team has not had a great season! Anyway, the surgeon will let me know if there is an interim procedure call a Hip Resurfacing which would get me another ten years......Does this get any better? Yes it does.

I then find the ability to speak and I said anything else non surgical? She then hands me a form for the hospital which states I need to have a cortisone shot in my hip joint to alleviate the wack of swelling on my hip!!!!! I don't cry at that point because it will take 6 weeks to get that shot......oh dear god it had better come with Adivan or Xanex, because that is a big needle. They need to do it at the hospital to make sure it gets into the joint by using the IMaging machine......Good news is that swimming and cycling and yoga are perfect exercises for the hip but not the running. Wwhhhaatttttt! Okay if I have to race walk it , I will! If the cortisone shot works I would get 6 to 12 months of pain relief and then I can jump and run etc. I would get that shot once or twice a year for as long as the work and then surgery.

So I get in my car just shaking my head....seriously weren't the colonoscopy and mammogram enough? Apparently not! So I go home into the house and decide to have a few dark chocolate covered pomegranates...... So as I take a nice chew, savouring the flavour I feel something hard like a rock......WTF! Great to top off my award winning day,my dental implant fell out....the tiny cement seal had broken after 15 years but why on that day! Now I feel like a broken down hillbilly missing teeth!

At this point, I am so excited I could just pee but don't dare as that is the last body part to be spared today!

Yet off to the gym for endurance swimming tomorrow and training continues. My new Physio is a cute ginger who will get my left glut to be as strong as my right so my quad will quit doing all the work for the left leg, thereby getting rid of my irritated IT bad syndrome...which is really causing mot of my pain. I will forever more be a dedicated Galloway runner.....lots of walk run in my future

So that is where it stands but this is just another small finish line I have to get through on my way to the big prize!

Carry on Sparkers! Tomorrow is another day to conquer!

Good idea to send one blog to everyone. Oh my. Well my nephew broke his hip when the ligament snapped while he was running so I guess there is some good news. I made up a program for him to do in the pool walking in chest height water in my pool. I'm sure your PT will do something similar. As for being too young for a hip replacement - the only reason they say that is how long the artificial joints last. They have to take bone each time so can only usually do 2 replacements... but you have to weight the quality of life now vs. later. For me I was sitting around watching life pass me by and I decided I would much rather have that in 10 years. However I have found a huge amount of pain relief walking in the water and strengthening the supporting muscles around the joints which my docs say is encouraging the replacement to last longer.. I would not recommend swimming but that is my opinion. Walking though is excellent in the water. Yeah, it is lovely to turn 50 in Ontario isn't it. I still have my requisitions. Kind of postponing the events. Dental stuff - shiver. Hate the worse. You have quite a time ahead!

    Wow Cheryl - that's a load !!
The Boob Crusher is bad enough and a scope too , yikes - I have to say your blog was amusing even though you went through so much . I am sorry about the hip replacement - some recovery time for sure after that surgery . But I know you will handle like a pro and Jolly spirits as you always do coach . Falling apart over there - welcome to the club. Like you have mentioned to me that sometimes running is overrated like myself you'll have to focus on speed walking but I am not participating in IM - wow - I am starting out slow with IW - your my hero !! emoticon
Cortisone shot will bring relief but cycling , yoga and swimming will help. Yes , I guess I am officially in the Race mode as I am always late on blogs now ! lol - Love my crown - off to shovel foot of snow today - then drills - emoticon oh the tooth I 'll send a emoticon that stinks - the pee thing give two years - that's next !! lol Hugs K

Holy Carp! You sound like you are keeping your sense of humor.

Sounds like you have a plan for the hip - and the other tests are really not as bad as they sound.

    Hang in there!

I guess the only positive thing I can think of is maybe it's better that they didn't spread all that over the week. Tomorrow has GOT to be a better day for you!

Dear Iron Maiden! What a day! OMG! Thank God every day is a different one, right? emoticon

What a ton to lay on anyone in one day! If it helps at all, I've had both a colonoscopy & mammogram. The colonoscopy itself isn't too bad, it's the preparation that's stinks! Pun intended! The mammogram should be not more than uncomfortable - kind of depends on where you are in your cycle though. I guess the good news is that you don't have to study for either of these tests! emoticon

Your strength and sense of humour will get you through this. Hang in there, Girl! emoticon

Geez! What a crazy day! I'm sorry to here about your hip. That must be very frustrating, especially with your iron man training. However, you seem to have a very positive outlook on everything!

OMG! All in the same DAY? Happy belated indeed! Thank God for humor... and my mom was right. Getting older is NOT for wimps!

Stay strong. Be healthy. We WILL get through this "stuff"! (btw, I'll be having my second colonoscopy, the follow up 8 years after the first... on Monday... such joy... can we contain ourselves? Oh, that's right, the point was to be cleaned out, not contained...)

emoticon May the medical-izing be done soon, and the relief last a long time.
