12 hour road trip

Thursday, January 09, 2014

So, one of my besties called me today in a tither... her hubby bought her 2 tickets to see Keith Urban in Nashville, TN on February 1st. I am not a huge country fan but I had told her I would go with her... thinking we'd be flying out there. Oh no, she wants to do a road trip. Drive for 12 hrs on Friday - concert Saturday - drive home 12 hrs on Sunday. Have I mentioned that after 2 hrs in a car I get a bit frantic? I drove to North Carolina over the summer to visit my sister in law. That was 8 hrs and it nearly killed me. But, a girls weekend it will be ... and lots of driving involved. And what does she say to me on the phone, "Don't worry. I'll bring bacon for you to eat on the way!" gotta love a friend who respects my low carb lifestyle!

He plays guitar magnificently. Should be fun.
That's quite a road trip though just to get to the concert.
It'll be an experience for sure.

Mmmmm bacon snacks!! Road trips can be fun, at least they were when I was younger! I've driven to Vegas several times (9-10 hours), to L.A. a couple times (6+ hours). Driven from California to central Florida and back, twice, the last time my return trip took just 3 days! Lots of hard driving miles that time :). If you can stay awake, you can put lots of hours behind the wheel (some of those may not be too safe though!). My longest stint of being awake and traveling was back in Nov. '93. Woke up at 8 am Thursday morning, worked from 2 - 10:30 pm then headed to Spokane Washington (900 miles). Drove all day Friday, went to a party in Spokane Friday night and ended up going to bed at 3 am Saturday morning. I was awake for 43 hours and I could have easily hit 48 hours, but everyone else around me went to sleep so I didn't see the point in staying awake :)

Enjoy the road trip and remember, if you take too many caffeine pills (No-Doz, etc.) they may have the opposite effect and put you to sleep!
