Fitbits and Brothers and Sisters, Oh MY!

Tuesday, December 31, 2013

I am the oldest child of four. I like calling myself a child because in 2014 I will be 50 (just got my notice to subscribe to AARP!) My siblings and I are, and always have been close. They are my best friends and I am happiest when we are all together. I know how lucky I am!!

One brother lives in NY while the rest of us live in NH. I miss my Red Sox fan in a sea of Yankees...but we talk, text and "tweet" all the time.

The rest of us see eachother regularly. We celebrate every holiday together, have game nights and just seek each other's counsel as we need it.

Oh yeah...and we are all fat.

Tomorrow, New Years Day, we will get together at my Mom's house (except for my NY brother) to celebrate Christmas. My sister and I have the fitbit one. We love them and we created a team/group for just us. Tomorrow, my brother and sister in law will get fitbits.
My mom will serve her ooey gooey mac and cheese and have lots of other decadent food. It makes her happy to feed us....Poor mom....this is going to bum her out!! After we eat, we'll take our "before" pictures. Then we all kick this healthy journey into high gear!!

I love competing in my spark teams (Go Tangies!). I love cheering on my spark teams (Go NH, and 40 somethings walking team!) I love my fitbit teams and the support and competitive nature they bring to my healthy journey. But this....my FAMILY... my heart and soul...THIS should do the trick.

So, tomorrow we eat, we pose, we strap on our fitbits with wild abandon and we stare down those lions, and tigers and bears....I mean cookies and cakes and chips and we WILL win!!!

Happy New Year!

My brother is 5 years younger than me. After I lost 90 lbs, he got on the stick, and has now lost 45, and still going strong.

    Good luck to you all,

What an awesome goal for 2014! This will strengthen even more your relationship... and I can foresee very nimble fingers in the process with all the texting! emoticon

I am sure you are a role model for your siblings. What a great fit team you'll be! You're like the Musketeers--who were actually 4!

Go Bren's sis and brothers! You can all do it!

If you are going to be 50 I want to be you when I grow up. Don't worry I got my AARP when I was 30 and pamphlets on buying burial plots. emoticon What do they know that I don't?

I think it's awesome for you to have a little sibiling challenge. I would love something like that. I think it will be a great addition to your get healthy plan. Go for it.

How lovely! I hope you post a picture of you all with your Fitbits!

My brother and I had a rocky childhood which kept us close, but distance and politics keep us apart now. I still enjoy my time with him, but it's always in limited doses.
Someday I hope to have a deep, honest conversation with my brother about our past. Now just isn't the time.

Have a FANTASTIC Christmas/New Years celebration with your family!
    Health and happiness always,
    Kelly

What an awesome gift and goal for 2014~! I am close to my family as well and my brother and SIL are the ones that got me started with running 5K's. They run those and 10K;s and 10 miles and soon a half marathon!
I am so happy for you that this is a challenge that your whole family is going to take on. Support is priceless in this journey, that is for sure.
So kick some butt, and bring on the steps. And congrats on turning 50, whenever that happens as you are making yourself healthier with each step that you take.
So proud of you and so glad to have you among my friends and competing makes it so fun!!
Have a wonderful New Years eve, stay safe and all the best to you and your family in 2014~ The best is yet to come
Hugs to you my super friend! Holly

Brenda, I am so happy for you that you are all close to each other. My brother and I are close, but neither of us is speaking to my sister (and frankly we are better for it). But makes me appreciate families where everyone loves, enjoys, and supports each other. So, the family that fitbits together ... what? Gets healthy together, I guess. In 2014, I will be really concentrating on the eating side of things (ooey gooey mac and cheese for me) because I think I've taken the stepping side of things about as far as I can take it. I wish you (and your family) all the best in 2014.
