son#2, the Pilot has a Birthday!

Saturday, December 28, 2013

This is son #2 the Air Canada Pilot with his new girl---It is son#2's Birthday---He was born in 1969 in Ottawa---He was a quiet baby---ate -slept----didn't cry----which was good for me as I had an 18 month old at home ---He was born in a snow storm-----
As soon as he could get onto his feet-----he never stopped moving-----
He was quick------and I lived in fear he would injure himself--or that I would lose him-When himself and I stopped the car to shop somewhere (and those days there were no seat belts)- I remember once , he jumped out of the back seat of the car and ran towards the store---I thought for sure he was going to get hit by a car---He was probably 2-3 yrs old---
He had a tiny 2 wheel bicycle at 3 yrs of age--and he rode that thing, fast like the wind-- up and down the parking lot of the townhouse we lived in.
We had 5 children, and made many trips to Florida , every winter, to spend Xmas with my Mom and Dad--We crammed all 5 children in a station wagon--no seat belts----and it was always son #2 who pinched and pestered all of them--but when I turned my head, trying to catch him in the act, he would be sitting there like an angel, smirking, with the other siblings weeping and wailing!
I soon learned that this child was probably much brighter than me---and it was a challenge everyday , for me, to keep one step ahead of him, if for no other reason than to keep him alive!
And so, after racing his BMX bike---doing competitive swimming and making the National Canadian swim team where he still holds a Breast Stroke record, it was no surprise to himself and I that he decided to become a pilot and fly airplanes with real people in it--He graduated from Seneca College in their flight school program, with Honors----
So son #2----Happy Birthday!---I know you love your job!
When you meet this guy----in the Airbus--sit back and relax--because you know you will arrive safely at yer destination--with a smooth landing---Go and talk to him--Tell him that you are a "Spark buddy""--
So--eat yer fruit----give away the boxes of candies---and fly like the turtles--
Son #2 does!

Happy Birthday to Son #2!!! It sounds like you all had lots of fun on your drives to Florida!! And tell how is it that they are all squabbling and complaining and as soon as you look back they are all sitting there as if nothing happened. I used to put my sun visor down with the mirror in it and aimed at the back so I could see who was doing what to the others. LOL!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO SON #2!! It is my opinion that instead of celebrating their birthdays they should be celebrating us who gave birth to them. WE should be the ones getting presents!! Still have not managed to get that policy established in this household or even anyone interested in listening about it!!!

    Have a fun day!!

Fun blog! Love your tribute to your pilot son!! My own son (very similar personality, I'm afraid, and also apparent from birth) is just completing his pilot training at Thunder Bay and has absolutely loved the program. The less I know about what he's doing, the better quite probably!!

Thank you for that wonderful story about your #2 son! It's so clear that you're a proud mama. Well, happy birthday to him, and congratulations to you! You've obviously done the job you set out to do - to keep him alive long until he could take care of himself...though I'm sure he THOUGHT he could do that at three years old!

Have a great day, my friend. And yes, let's "fly with the turtles"!

I can see the heredity in his face... both you AND "himself". And what a great sharing of memories of parenthood to a beloved son! Happy Birthday, son#2... I know you read your mom's blogs!

Clearly, she loves ya, and I love the photos you share with all of us! emoticon
