One Goal Down
Thursday, November 28, 2013
Happy Thanksgiving! Today I completed one of the goals that I set for myself in July. I entered the Turkey Trot 2013 2 Mile walk & completed it. It's not a timed event. The walkers need to be completed by 9:30 so that the volunteers could leave. I signed up knowing I would finish it and set a goal to finish by 9:00. It was a simple goal - half an hour for each mile plus I didn't know what the weather might be doing (I.E. snowing, ice, sleet - the usual winter suspects). I also ordered the T-shirt for finishers in Large because I didn't think I could lose enough weight to fit in a Medium.
I set the time to finish & the T-Shirt size in July when I joined SparkPeople. I signed up still thinking I might not fit in a Medium. At that time, I was just trying to set a goal that I thought might be manageable. I wasn't working out on a daily basis or putting much effort into a healthy lifestyle. As I started making the small changes in my life, changes started to happen. I became more active and started going to the YMCA three times a week. Yesterday (November 27th), I picked up my T-shirt & tried it on. It was too big.
I ended up wearing the T-shirt over my coat the temperature was in the twenties with a wind chill in the teens. It was also snowing and the road did have ice on it in places. I broke my goal of completing the race by 9:00. I completed the race in 39 minutes and was home by 9:00. I'm going to keep the T-Shirt as a reminder of breaking a first major goal.
