Sunday in Athens at 1100a is the changing of the Guards where all of the troops come down in front of the Parliment and have quite a show. There is a band that plays the Greek National Athem and it is very heartwarming and patriotic show.
And then after the changing of the guards, we had some traditional Greek coffee.
After our coffee, we just went walking for several miles so the rest of the pictures are from our walk yesterday and today. 8.5 miles in both days and many many flight of stairs.
The Olympic Stadium built in 1896
The Exhibition Hall where they exhibit different things each month.
These are a few pics of the National Gardens.
Thanks for walking along with me in this wonderful Country. The time here is well spent walking and talking and taking in the sites and sounds. Athens is a very busy city and you don't dare walk out in the streets before making sure there are no cars turning or you may get run over but after the first couple of days you learn to navigate and watch where you are going!
I am having a lovely time and the food is outstanding. There is plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables and the fish is so fresh that you can taste the sea!
Until next time, have a great Monday!
Thanks so much Holly!!! I love the pics. You are the best for sharing with us. Great job with all the walking and stair climbing...you could probably afford some baklava!! Have fun! 2724 days ago
Thanks once again for sharing your pictures with us. I saw changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, it is really a great experience to witness too. I'm just wondering what those Greek guard have at the end of their shoes on the toe? You surely are getting a lot of good exercise with all the walking with your site seeing---good for you. Hope your enjoying the warm weather as it is raining here in the twin cities today and snow is in the forcast for tomorrow---think our days of 50's have come to an end this past weekend ( but we can hope ). 2725 days ago
Once again simply stunning pictures. I really appreciate you sharing them with us. I love the changing of the guard tradition. Such a show of patriotism. I really get into events like this. As always keep enjoying your vacation. One question....what makes Greek coffee, Greek coffee? I know in most Mexican coffees (and hot chocolate) they add spices. Yum! 2725 days ago
