Tracking and Food Success!

I'm excited to report that recently I've been doing a good job tracking. Even if I go over, I track it. I only went over one day this week, I was over by one snickers ice cream bar. I've also been doing a better job about WHAT I'm eating. When you see the numbers in black and white, it helps you realize how much garbage you're putting in! Some of my mini-goals are: eat a salad every day to boost veggie in-take, do SOME kind of workout for at least 20 min./day, even if I don't feel well, I still make myself stretch for 20 min! TRACK IT! The good, the bad and the ugly! Track it all! Finally, don't drink your calories! I know that one seems obvious, but it's tough!

I've been a 2+ soda/day girl for the past 20-something years of my life! Some people smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol, some binge eat, some lead sedentary lifestyles.... I DRINK COKE! It's just that one bad habit I've never been able to kick, in spite of many-many-many-many attempts! Finally, I believe my body has said ENOUGH! Since June, I've been plagued with kidney pains.. I've been to the doctor numerous times, had a CT scan, I'm seeing a specialist next Monday... but the only thing I can do in the mean time is be kind to my body... that means, NO SODA! or diet soda, or anything with artificial sweetener, or caffeine, or overly acidic.... I've been doing pretty good about it, too! I basically can't drink anything but water or caffeine-free herbal tea.... so that has freed up at least 150-400+ calories/day in my diet!

Before, I would budget at least one 12 oz serving of soda/day in my diet! Now, I can eat 150 more calories! That's a slice of toast with some peanut butter, or some yogurt and half a banana, a small salad, veggies with hummus.... so many things I can eat instead of drinking a coke! I do miss it! I'll be honest... and I sometimes take a sip when my husband cracks open a fresh one! It's been about 3 weeks since I quit soda and I've only sat down and had a 12 oz. can three times! Three times in three weeks vs. 2-3/day! That's an accomplishment! Now... if only my kidneys would start to heal. :(

    Congrats on limiting your Soda intake! That is no easy task. (Making any major lifestyle change -- whether adding or subtracting a behavior -- is always difficult.) You should be very proud of yourself, and I hope you get to feeling better soon!!!
