Shin Splint Update

Tuesday, August 20, 2013

After years and years of massive shin splint problems (including internal leg bleeding from them), I am proud to say I can walk 3 miles PAIN FREE!

What a blessing. I am walking every day at lunch now to keep going. It feels great!

I don't think I'll be able to run a mile by the end of the year, but I am going to start working on it. If it's too much on my shins, I'll stick with walking.

I have tried everything from physical therapy to orthopedic surgeons, etc. Nothing has worked! I couldn't walk a 1/2 mile without the muscle putting away from the bone and causing bleeding on the inside of my legs. Everytime I would try, I would end up with bruises all over my calves.

    Here's what I did:
I bought wraps for my legs. I want to try the new Tommy Copper ones to see if they work good. Then I started out using Icy Hot on my legs before walking on the treadmill. I started walking at 1 MPH for a half mile. From there, I kept increasing my speed, then my distance. So, I went to 1.5 MPH same distance. Once I didn't have pain with that, I went a little further, up to 1 mile. Once I did that with no pain, I increased my speed to 2, kept the distance, the raised the distance and kept the speed. I kept doing this and now I'm at 3 mph for 3 miles. It's a huge thing for me! emoticon
