My poor Tess!

This is Tess--1 of our Germans-as in German Shepherds-
Yesterday she appeared stressed---had trouble breathing-could not walk with me-
She had been well the day before, 'cept for some coughing and didn't want her dinner--Himself took the day off work----We drove to the vet with both Germans-2 hrs up the highway-I thought maybe something was stuck in her throat------
By the time we got to the vet, she was drooling --very distressed-
Her temperature was 104---(the vet took it!)-
After an X-ray--and a needle to reduce her temp., I was told she had a fungal infection in her lungs--a pneumonia-, caused by breathing in a fungus which is found in wood and damp soil-"Blastomycosis" .....they call it!-. Have any of you ever heard of this?
I had never heard of such a thing-!
And of course, we live on a lake---We've had a lot of rain----and she runs along the fence line, in the bush looking for chippys-----
She is very sick-----
After a bill of $850--3 different meds--given instructions that the next 3 days are crucial to watch her for more respiratory problems --and another appointment in 2 weeks---I learned that this terrible disease will have to be treated for the next 6 mos----
You just never know what every day will bring--
