Scale shock

My weigh-ins are saturday morning and I obsess a little and usually weigh-in some days before to see if I am okay. This week has been good on eating and exercising so I did not see it coming when I climbed the scale this morning and noticed a plus of five kilos.... not even possible!

Explanation? I took the last of my diuretic medicine saturday and this has to be fluids building up in my body because there is no way I could have gained weight from food.

Today it is off to the pharmacy and get the second load of those pills before I have gotten all that was in my prescription. Then we┬┤ll see what happens.

It is very discouraging to see that my work to lose weight was worth nothing on the scale when I did not take that medicine. My arrogant mind had thought that because I have been eating well, exercising and lost wieght, I might had "fixed" the unbalance that gave me that oedema in the first place. I am not fond of pills... but it is time to be humble and eat my medicine like a good girl and hope it drives the extra fluid out before weigh-in day...

    Your hard work at eating well and exercising may not show up on the scale, but don't underestimate its value. Daily practice of good eating habits and exercise makes that our new normal behavior. Living a healthy lifestyle is the reward, not a temporary behavior that gets us to the reward.

    Why is it so difficult to take longterm medicines? I have the same problem myself with my Thyroid meds. I'm constantly slapping my wrist because I forgot to take them first thing in the morning... We must agree to regard them differently.

    I'm sorry you had that disappointment, Meddy! But you were wise to isolate the diuretic (or lack of it) as the cause. Don't be discouraged by this...

    You are doing SO WELL, making changes, sticking to your plans...
    Who knows indeed you ARE taking care of the unbalance by doing all those things... it may just take a little longer to become manifest.

    I'm in the same boat you are, Meddy. Not in terms of a diuretic, but in terms of little things making a big difference. I've had to spend the last couple of days doing computer repair (meaning I follow the technician while not knowing why I'm doing what I'm doing), so I've been sitting down more than normal. Even with no change to my diet - same low-calorie meals, no splurges - my weight's up some, and what's worse, my blood sugar is quite a bit higher than usual. An hour or so's exercise, even just walking around, must make a huge difference. And I believe missing a diuretic pill or two would be in that same category: little thing, big effect.

    Who'd have thought we'd be so finely balanced?

    i know that feeling very well - somehow it feels unfair that despite all the healthy choices we make regarding food and exercise, we *still* have to take pills (i am in the same boat, including a mild diuretic). i was sure that when the weight came off, when i stayed active, when i eat a healthy diet, there would be no more pills. but... it wasn't the case, and the goal is still to feel good and be healthy, making good choices!

    Meddy your blogs always make me feel like we are sitting together sharing a cup of tea. You are amazing and interesting and bring joy. Thank you! Your food always looks so interesting. The water weight will go down. Maybe you also gained some muscle. Muscle weighs more. Keep on keeping on. emoticon
