New Running Buddies... & More!

Saturday, July 13, 2013

I tried out my 'new' running group today. It is a 6 month program which trains runners for a marathon or half marathon in January. The biggest benefit to me are the long runs on Saturday, though they can start VERY early! We are always done running by 8 am for a short seminar, so many runs start while it's very dark out!

My biggest problem last time was that I was a half marathoner kind of running with the marathon group but really doing my own miles. I also didn't attend very faithfully since my half marathons So, I never really made any friends though I occasionally ran with another runner for awhile.

This time I decided to join the marathon group as I've got a half in October and really need to build my miles. Today's run was 3 miles, which is the longest I've run in about 4 months because of a foot problem. But, it went well! And, I actually finished at the same time as 2 other runners and the couch who came back to join us. I really enjoyed talking to several other runners, but especially the other lady I finished with. The other runner was a man who was running 3 miles for the first time! He did great, though was definitely struggling!

The best part, for me, came after the run. I had brought my bike to get in a ride after our run. I talked to the coach who mentioned she does triathlons. I asked if she'd like to ride some weeks after our runs and she said she would! She also told me about trail runs she does and I'm interested in trying that out.

While we were talking one of her other friends walked up. She is also part of our group, but hadn't run with us this morning because she hurt her ankle. She also does triathlons! And, she's doing the same 50 mile ride that I'm doing next week! We exchanged cell numbers and are going to hook up next Sunday. We also ride similar paces so that'll be very nice! emoticon

Lastly, I mentioned a duathlon I was considering doing in 4 weeks, and they both agreed to do it with me! So, I'll have a couple of duathlon buddies! I'm so excited! emoticon emoticon emoticon

And, I took my bike into the shop today for a squeaking sound. I asked about a weekly bike ride they do and found out is on Sunday mornings and they go for 25 miles. I'm going tomorrow to try it out! WooHoo!!! I might have a weekly Saturday run group & a weekly Sunday ride group! And, if this doesn't work out, the two running ladies mentioned meeting on Sundays for rides, too.

Kudos to your endeavors! LBS often coordinate rides and cool to take advantage of them! Love to share my cycling with others in group rides.

I love my two running groups & my Tri group. They keep me on schedule and, because everyone shares their experience & knowledge, I've become a lot more wiser. This encourages and excites me on in my plan! I'm so glad to see what you've shared. Stay strong, focused, and own it all!
