30 pound gain in 5 minutes! But 1.8 down this week

Wednesday, July 10, 2013

Yes. I did gain 30 pounds in 5 minutes. All it took was stepping on my new, more accurate scale. I went from 298 pounds to 328 pounds in less than 5 minutes. Arghh!

On the good side:
-I get to celebrate going below 300 pounds again at some point in the next 3-4 months.
-It prompted me to get serious about tracking food (although I'm using a point system, not calories).
-Serious tracking resulted in a loss of 1.8 lb this week (and my new scale gives me an exact measurement ;-)).
-Now that I'm tracking, I'm more likely to plan my meals, prepare them ahead of time, and take that moment of consideration to wonder whether it is it worth it to put it in my mouth. The delicious home-made chocolate cake my a friend who is a master baker was. The impulse chocolate bar at the bus stop was not.

I'm not thrilled about it. But it is what it is. I've still gone down four clothing sizes since January and I have all sorts of strength and flexibility I didn't have since I started swimming six months ago. I'm eating way more non-starch veggies and eating lots more fruit and very little in the way of empty calories.

Thanks to everyone who continues to share their journey to a healthier, more active life.

I'm still reeling over the distance you have swum in the past few months-nothing to sneeze at...
I have 2 scales, one weighs four pounds heavier than the other.....
Scales can be a bummer, but you have so much other non scale evidence of your improved fitness!! Keep it up!! emoticon

Oh bummer on the scale! I had that happen a few years ago. I had a scale that read ERROR, meaning I was over 330. I had ASSUMED I was over by just a couple. Well, I got a new scale and OH MY GOD! It was so upsetting, but it made me determined. LIke you said, it is what it is. Focus on how far you've come. You're doing so great and look at how may sizes you've gone down. That's FANTASTIC! GO GO GO! SO very very proud of you! emoticon

You're doing great. How you feel is more important than the number on the scale. Awesome progress!

Your doing awesome! Keep up the good work!! And I also don't do the calorie count, I count carbs and sugar so I just keep a journal instead of using the tracker!!

I have used the same scale for years and it only measures in .5 pound increments but I would dread changing and seeing that much of a difference. I hope it never dies on me lol. I know it's not too far off as I've had weigh in at the doctor's office and it's close.

Kudos to you for your positive attitude about it and for recognizing all your successes!
