Diet + Exercise = Empowerment + Mental Clarity
Wednesday, July 03, 2013
Today was crazy, but wonderful. I've been feeling very empowered lately. I'm not sure if it's the exercise or the diet, but I've been KILLING it at work. Maybe it's because I survived my first bout of deliberate sexism in the workplace. I'm willing to say it's the diet and exercise.
Side Story - I was telling my team to keep away from a box of belongings for a lead joining our team. It had toys in it (Apparently, 19-23 year old men are the equivalent of 8 year old boys). One of these men turned to me after I said this, and said "Stop PMSing." I know it seems small to most men, but that phrase discredited whatever I said to the fact that I must be hormonal. That was honestly the first warning I had ever given that I put the fear into the heart of the employee.
We got a email tonight with a list a mile long about things that needed attention. I worked through my lunch break to get it done, and set up with the next shift to follow up on just 1 thing that we weren't able to do.
My boss is out of town for the next week, so I have a week to take the project by the horns and run our team. I'm the most experienced person on the team in his absence and I'm ready to use that to show how I can shine. We just got two leads on the Dayshift, so I'm going to have to run this from the Night. I have a 1:1 with my manager's manager on Friday and I'm looking forward to it with this clear mind.
It's funny how something as simple as taking a walk or eating a peach instead of a honey bun can have such a profound effect on your life.
