Losing Weight is FUN!

I 'stole' the title from CONFUSEDBIRD's blog, but just because I totally agreed with her! I am on my 2nd round of 'losing weight'. I started my journey in June of 2010 & hit goal weight early in 2011. For a year I kept off the weight. Then, during the 'maintenance phase' of 2012 & the first half of 2013, I started putting the weight back on. So, I'm on to round 2 of "losing weight".... and it IS fun!

How is it fun? Well, you track your food & do your workouts & you see the scale MOVE! And your clothes fit better... then they get lose... then you buy smaller clothes... and people start to comment on how great you look. That's FUN, right?

It's also that way with learning to run. If you were like me, you could barely run when you started. I started with C25K (couch to 5K which is an AWESOME program!) just days after starting SP. The first runs are for 30 seconds each. And, it was SO HARD! When I ran my first 2.5 minutes, I felt as proud as if I'd run a marathon! And, as I ran & ran the runs got farther (I've now run 4 half marathons) & faster & faster (so far, I've set a PR with every race). It feels great the first time you complete a 5K... or a half marathon... or set a PR... or compete in a triathlon!

So, YES, losing weight is HARD! And doing the exercise is often quite HARD! But, try to remember how much FUN it is, too!

    I'm a big fan of the motto which floats around our SparkFamily about "choosing your HARD," but you are so RIGHT to balance this mantra with the fun and rewarding aspects of living a life filled with SPARK!

    It IS fun! I totally agree about running races. And I'm just starting to see the change in my clothes again which is great. I can't wait to go shopping.

    Your so right. I hit a point in my training last summer & it just wasn't fun anymore & I almost dreaded running. A friend told me one day...Go for a run, don't worry about time, don't worry about distance, don't worry about speed. Just run, enjoy the scenery & HAVE FUN!! Since then, whenever I start stressing I remind myself...Just run & have fun!! No worries. It helps.

    I think back on when I learned to run & the first class we had to run 30 seconds. I thought I was gonna die. When I ran 10 minutes comfortably....WELL I felt like an olympian. lol. I still feel that way sometimes when I'm out. It's an awesome feeling.
