Bike adventures

Saturday, June 22, 2013

We set out today to ride 60 miles. Funny how that extreme number has now become an every weekend kind of thing. But some days, things are not to be.

First stop, we realized we forgot one of our water bottles. No big deal, we have others and will be fine. We can always refill later.

Next up, the visor breaks off of his helmet. We are not deterred.

A few miles later, his headphones break. Ok, who needs music.

Then he points out that my bike is making a dragging noise ... I look and dont see anything. Then we realize my front tire is low.

We take it off, and try pumping it up, but it is hissing near the valve stem. OK, that is why I carry a spare. We replace the tube with the new one. I am packing up to keep going, and whoosh, tire pops and goes completely flat. Ok, I only carry one spare.

Well, that pretty much cinches it. He rides back to the vehicle to come pick me up at an agreed upon place. I walk my deflated bike 2.25 miles to the pickup location and wait.

So I only got 15.5 miles. He got 31 I guess. We did stop by the bike shop and get another tube and another spare too.

Better luck tomorrow.

(Oh, and it rained on our big foamy seats on the way home, so they will be soggy too.)

We did manage to get home and mow the lawn, so we can at least have that time to ride tomorrow.
