Beware! A full length mirror!!

Friday, June 21, 2013

I took a big, positive step for myself yesterday. I joined the YMCA. I have the time now and will find the money somewhere! Why is it that the things we need most in life are so expensive?? I got the grand tour yesterday and a schedule to follow. I went early this morning armed with my towels, shampoo, deodorant, etc. and a brand new locker padlock. As I was getting ready to shower before going to my 9:00 am. water aerobic class, I happened to look up to the back of the locked door. Now, believe it or not, I have never owned a full length mirror. So I have never had the ghastly view that I got today. To say that I was horrified by what I saw would be an understatement. What happened to me? How did I get like this? No wonder my health is so bad. What a wake up call. That image will be imprinted on my eyeballs forever. I enjoyed my first water aerobic exercise class. Nobody seemed to be bothered by how I looked in a bathing suit. Everyone was friendly and helpful. I even saw some ladies I knew. There were some exercises I couldn't do but I'll keep trying. And the best part was getting in the whirlpool afterwards. Boy, did that make my back feel good. Now, to get my eating under control again. Never give up!!

I think it's awesome that you joined the Y! Keep with the plan and that image in the mirror will shrink before you know it! emoticon

    Hi Linda,
I saw a card that made reference to trying on a bikini in front of a 3-way mirror with fluorescent lighting . You made a giant step, and I wish you the greatest success on your new endeavor. I'm still guarded about being seen in a swimsuit. You have gone through a difficult time, now it's time to think about yourself. You are a beautiful person.

Good for you and if I could just one thing...the ghastly bit is the expectation gap between where you are now and where you want to be..not you! Having looked at your photos I can vouch for the fact that you do look lovely (and going by the comments on your photo...other people think so too).

Good for you on letting that mirror light your fire instead of what I did too often lately- shy away and eat more. ??? Ugh!

I'm proud of your gym workouts and KNOW you will be a master of the pool soon. Woohoo for you!

Think of the mirror as your personal memory board, a few months from now the picture will change. Very PROUD of you!

Linda -Good for you !! It may be expensive but you are worth it !! I remember a similar moment for me when I was shopping for some new clothes a few years ago- I too was shocked and wondered the same things you did... Glad to hear you are taking some positive steps toward better health!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Peggy

I need to do what you did. It won't be the Y, too expensive, but I need to hire a trainer by contract to make sure I do what I need to do. Walking keeps me thin but not fit. As far as the mirror, the changes will be slow but they WILL happen. Alas, if you are anywhere near my age, looking like a 25 year old will never happen, but you'll look a LOT better. And happier!

Yay! I am so proud of you!

You have just jumped back on the wagon! This will help you immensely to strengthen your back and leg muscle and will help you deal with the pain, not to moention that it will also cover the loss of your walking exercise, which may return once you get some weight off again.

I am totally impressed with you for finally doing something that is for you and outside the home! Bravo! Keep it up hon!
