Gardening is hard work, but the results are nice

Wednesday, June 12, 2013

I spent 2 1/4 hours today in the garden. It was time to dig the potatoes. They turned out good & I got my exercise for the day....all that bending up & down, carrying the heavy buckets, using the shovel at times.

Now my onions will have to be pulled within the next few days as the tops are dying & laying over. Then I will string them (one at a time) and hang them on my upstairs porch. when I want one all I will have to do is go out & pull one lose from the string.

More gardening later. The yard work is getting farther behind though. It will just have to wait as the gardening comes first.

Sounds like you have been busy today sister.
I like potatoes and onions myself too.
Ground is too hard for us to grow our own.
We do have a blueberry bush and some other plants.
Hope that you have a great weekend! Holly emoticon

The results are yummy too! Can hardly wait until my garlic is ready. I've run out of last year's crop and the stuff at the store is NOT as good!

Sounds wonderful..a never ending job and sense of accomplishment. You got a lot done. Fantastic!

I always considered the lawn as part of the 'gardening'...of course I love lots of flowers. I miss that in my apartment...

    Keep up the great work!

Good job! My garden takes priority over yard work too! Not good, but that's definitely how it is here too.

You have peaked my interest. I lost most of my onions bc I left them in the ground and they rotted. It was my first time growing them, so my question is this, can you please post a picture of these hanging onions so that I can understand it better.

Are they in the shade, inside, or outside and how long can they stay hanging. I want to plant more but not be wasteful and lose them again. I so hate waste, when so many others are in need. I do give my extras to Food For Life and that helps, but I just was not in the know about he onions and thought I could leave them there until I needed one, NOT SO!
