#55 Salute!

Monday, May 27, 2013

Happy Memorial Day! Usually I hang my flag today, but my painter has the bracket down while he is painting, so I feel a bit unpatriotic!

My dad was a WWII Vet. He was shot while in France in December during a battle. I cna't even imagine what it would be like to lay in the snow in a battlefield wounded, waiting to be brought to the safety by your commerades. He came home from battle on the Queen Elizabeth and was sent to Gardenier General Hospital in Chicago to recover. Dad never talked much about the war. He wore its scars everyday of his life but never complained. Many others weren't so lucky.

Thank you to all the vets who fight or have fought for our freedom, and especially to those who gave the ultimate gift so that we may live free.

It is a chilly, rainy day in my part of Michigan. Didn't get the rest of the yardwork done, or my lawn mowed. Instead am in the house and thinking of building a fire in the fireplace to take the chill out! Got a mile in on the treadmill, but my fitbit steps are not where I would like to see them. Will have to get off my butt and get busy to see the number I would like before I go to bed!

Will be watching hockey later on, so I guess I should get off this computer and get back on that treadmill! Go Wings!

Back in the routine tomorrow. Hope the sunshine comes back because this gloomy, windy, rainy day makes me want to curl up on the couch with my blankie. Geez, enough of that. Signing off before I talk myself out of the treadmill!

Happy Memorial Day! Love you all.

This is a wonderful post! I love to hear stories like your dad's. My Pop was also on WWII and Korea, and he never talked about it, either. Thanks and hope you made that treadmill!

My dad was a WWII vet, as well. He was the editor for the Stars and Stripes for the Pacific Theater (he was 5'9" and weighed 133, so it was finally decided that maybe this would be a better way of using his talents). He was stationed in the Philippines. I have correspondence from him and from his two brothers who were serving in Europe.

I agree about this weather... actually took a nap this afternoon. I was lucky - I got in my walk prior to the rain. My plants are quite happy with the rain, and I am quite happy to be out of it.

    Go Wings!

Thanks to your Dad and my Dad who served too, who made sure we have our freedoms in this great country of ours! This is a day to rememder those who fought, and those who died for the price of freedom.

Now go get your exercise in for the day! I have to do the same thing!
