I answered a poll question this morning here on Spark about how much TV do you watch a day.

The options were none, 1-2 hours, 3-4 hours, or 4+ hours.

In the comments, (which I rarely leave one) there were many people condemning TV and what a waste of time it is to watch it. Evidently I am the only person in America who actually enjoys watching TV!

I have learned how to cook a healthy meal, visited places that I will never physically go to, learned to appreciate different cultures, developed a love of antiques, and found a way to survive a murder mystery in England. All from my couch.

TV might be for everyone but I preferred to have it on when I was single. It was great company in the evening. I like to know when bad weather is approaching or when I should cover my plants in the spring time due to the chance of frost.

Denise Austin and I had a date every single morning from 6 am - 7 am when she was on the Lifetime network. She helped me lose 80 pounds once. She is a friend for life!

I never knew how to hunt Alligators, survive in Alaska during their harsh winters or drive on frozen highways until my husband came into my life. Not sure I will every need these skills but as least I know a bit more about them. I now I WILL visit Alaska one day with my husband because we have seen places on TV (gasp) that we would like to visit.

Now, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Chuggington and Little Einsteins can be heard anytime of the day and into the evening as my son adores them. They have helped him count to 20, say words I don't use everyday and foster a love of TRAINS ... all at 27 months.

Do I think there are people who watch TV too much -- not for me to say. There are many lonely people in the world and if it brings them joy, who I am to say it's bad? Just like I won't condemn people who don't watch it. I just think it's funny that people are so quick to act like it's the worst thing in the world you can do.

So, TV has place in our household and probably will for a long long time!

I love this blog!!! I thought I was the only one who enjoyed television. However, I do not watch reality tv shows but I do enjoy many programs. No, I do not DVR them or go "hey, its 7pm, its time to watch xyz show" but I still enjoy television. It's great background noise when you are single. It definitely provides information worth noting and sometimes its just nice to vege on the couch!!!

You really made some very good points about TV. I believe you can over due just about any activity. I like watching sports and my wife likes crafty things and we enjoy watching Hallmark movies together while holding hands and snuggling. Feel free to rant on. Have a great day! emoticon
