Surprise at the Y

Wednesday, May 22, 2013

So I'm at the Y today, in the back area of the fitness center where the he-men do bench presses and the skinny little girls do ab work on mats. I don't usually workout back here alone, only with a trainer in a class. So I felt pretty out of place. I grabbed a mat for pushups and a medicine ball for squat presses and did my thing. It was pretty crowded and it was difficult to find a spot that was not too close to the weight benches etc. to set up. When I'm done, this older gentleman comes up to me. He is very fit, I see him at the Y all the time, but I don't know his name. He is very stern, and says,"Young lady, I need to talk to you" So I'm thinking I'm in his way, or wasn't doing my exercises correctly, or broke some protocol of the workout area. I fully expect from his demeanor that he is going to scold me for something. He says, "I saw you when you started coming in with your pals a couple of months ago, and I just want to say, you have really improved! Keep up the good work, great job!" I was floored! All 275 pounds of me was in shock. I thanked him, and he gave me a high five and walked away! I've been getting frustrated lately that the weight is just not coming off, and this was just exactly what I needed! His compliments were worth a ten pound weight loss to me! I Am getting stronger, have more stamina, I Am improving! It took the words of a total stranger to boost me up and make me realize, I may have a Long, long way to go, but at least I'm on the right path!

So kind of him to recognize your improvement, and brave of you to be prepared for the worst. I'm so glad the whole exchange turned out to be such a day brightener for you. Keep up the good work and use this moment to keep you going when you hit the rough patches. emoticon

Thanks, Bamajam! Getting hooked on exercise is easy, once you make friends with your own sweat! LOL. I used to hate getting sweaty, now I know I didn't workout hard enough if I'm not sweating. Now, if I could just get the eating under control! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hooray for you!!! Kind and sincere words from a stranger can truly BOOST one up!

I need to stop "talkin"--- and start doing! I just wish the pounds would vanish, but I must stop the laziness!

What a nice blog, & Congrats to you for your fruitful efforts!
