#32 Bad choices but feeling good?

Monday, May 06, 2013

Yesterday was a fun time with the kids and grandkids. Burgers and ribs on the grill --- and birthday cake. I had one of the ribs. It did taste yummy while I was eating it. After was another story! I think I am getting used to lower fat foods, I must say I was feeling a little yucky later that evening.

The birthday cake was good - but I only had one piece and when my daughter asked if I wanted a slice for later, I SAID NO!!! Wow! Even better part, I didn't just say no, I really didn't WANT another piece of cake.

Something is slowly changing, little steps, nothing drastic - still not eating salads daily, or becoming a vegetarian, or gluten free - but I am making better choices. I think my mindset is changing, and for this girl, that is a big thing!

So while the day wasn't full of the greatest food choices, and while the scale moved in the wrong direction this morning, it feels like a success! I AM CHANGING!!!

My daughters were talking last night about my son's upcoming birthday. They said "Oh, it's going to be sooo hard to not eat the cake and ice cream!" I stopped what I was doing and said "Look girls, this is about a healthier lifestyle, not deprivation! We will have a piece of cake. We will eat Christmas cookies. We will simply limit ourselves to a piece of cake, not several. We will have a cookie or two, not 12." Stefigurl is right. There will be treats and celebrations. We will indulge, do a couple of extra laps around the track, and move on. emoticon

Any change toward a healthier lifestyle has GOT to be positive, and your mindset makes up a large portion of that. Way to go! I love that you didn't even WANT a second piece. That's true change!!! emoticon

WICKED AWESOME, MAMA!!! So glad for you, Barb!
We still have to live this life, in this world. This is an 'everyday for the rest of my life' endeavor for me. There WILL be cake. There WILL be fattening foods. They just won't be the norm anymore! We can do this!!! We ARE doing this!!! One day at a time, we are healing :-).

    love,
