What will the month of May hold?

Sunday, May 05, 2013

Good morning to all!
It is Orthodox Easter today so we will be hosting the Greek version of Easter today.
This will include leg of lamb and lots of great side dishes and of course a delicious Greek
salad to go with everything. I am hoping for nicer weather and no snow!

I was getting my hair done yesterday and my stylist was asking me how my diet was going. I always tell people at this point, it is not a diet, it is a lifestyle change. I don't plan on changing anything even when I reach goal weight.
She asked me if I have cheat days. I really had to think about this because there are definitely days that I am at the top of my calorie range or even just a little over, but I don't have days where I have burger and fries or several pieces of pizza like I would have a few months ago. So I know that I don't intentionally think about having a cheat day but if I go over on occasion, that is just part of life and part of the journey.
She asked if I cut certain things out completely, and again, I had to say no, I just don't eat much of certain things like bread or fries. I love both of these things and they were part of what caused the weight gain so I know that I need to eat them in very small quantities.
I never order fries anymore when I eat out, but I do steal a few. As far as bread, I only eat it on rare occasion and I measure how much I eat so I fit it into my calories for the day.
So after thinking about this for awhile, I really do think of this as my lifestyle and it does consist of meat in small portions and of course lots of fruits and vegetables.
It does get easier it seems as time goes on once I made this my way of eating.
Spark on everyone and have a great weekend! We can do this.

I love Greek food, especially the salad-one of my faves!
I think the lifestyle change makes a big difference as time goes on, on how you view food. It sinks in that you can have anything you want, but within limits. When you learn that, I find you don't crave those trigger foods as much and when you do want them, you tend to eat less of it. And it takes time to learn this and to accept it. And we have to learn not to feel guilty if we eat what we used to think of as a forbidden food. Because it is the guilt that gets us to give up, thinking just one day of eating a bad food has totally ruined it all!
You are doing great Holly! Thanks for the blog! It helps us all to ponder on how we are all doing and what we need to do to make it better!

That's great to hear about the lifestyle changes. I keep catching myself at the word "diet", and am honestly trying to find a way to eat in a way I sustain--your blog is very motivating!

First of all "kudos" for making the mind set change of diet to lifestyle changes and for embracing it. YOU are doing great. Second what time is dinner....I haven't had a leg of lamb in ions. My bbf's father used to make this every time he came to town. Since his passing none of us make it. I would, but I know DH doesn't like lamb so it would only be for one....sigh! Enjoy your beautiful day and festivities. I will be thinking of you will I eat my dull drum dinner.....just kidding...my meals normally are far from dull. emoticon emoticon
