When addressing the social issues the matter of choice is paramount to frame the discussion within the human context. Excusing the choice to not act or failing to learn would extinct the human race in short order when we were fighting for our survival. What has changed?
Our need to strive for survival! For the most part, the other participants in the animal kingdom do not hunt humans as a source of food. Anthropology supports this statement for much of our existence. Other than humans hunting each other (for sport, war, resource scarcity), it is rare a direct attack is sought against a human, unless offspring or territorial dominance is a part of the equation. We are unique to the mammalian life as we will choose to turn our backs on danger. This characteristic allows us to be blind to the truth. Thus, choice is the paramount starting point for all social discussions.
Our personal journeys are intertwined with choice. Losing focus on our goals will allow those forgotten enemies an opportunity to cause setbacks. Remember this journey is constant. Just like in our society where there are no part-time citizens, there can be no part time vigilance for personal growth. The failings of society mirror our failings of part-time attention.
Be whole to yourself. Be true to yourself. Above all be at peace.
