#28 Ouch!!!

Thursday, May 02, 2013

Yesterday I posted that it was one of those feeling good days, but like all things, that didn't last.

It all started when I bought tickets to a baseball game for my son and I only to find out that he is going to be gone that weekend, then the painter I hired to paint my house who hasn't shown up since wasn't there when I got home from work when he said he would be.

Frustrated, I threw my bike on the rack and drove to the bike trails. Planned to ride 12 miles. Did the first six and it was a bit tougher than I expected. I am so out of shape. Got to the point where I turn back, went to turn my bike, hit some loose sand/gravel and fell - face first on the pavement. Geez, I was embarassed. Two girls who were running asked if I was ok and I quickly replied yes - until I put my hand up to my face and it was covered with blood.

Luckily they didn't just rush off! I asked if they had anything I could wipe up with, of course not - they were running, not carrying huge first aid kit! One of the girls went to her car and brought me a tee shirt to use. Another man walking by stopped and asked if I was ok - again I said yes - and he promptly replied you don't look ok! He sat behind me and told me to lean back on his back and look at the sky to get the bleeding to stop - it was then that I discovered that I had lost a huge chunk of my front tooth!

He asked if I wanted to call someone and I said no. I was ok. He asked where my car was and I replied "Belmont". He said, you need a ride to your car there is no way you will be riding back there like this! Not sure if it was the adrenaline or just plain insanity, but I replied, I think I can. Luckily the runner girls said they had their car right there and they would take me back to my car.

This independent woman was so fortunate that there were people there willing to help me and not take my "I'm ok" as an answer!

Got back to my car, drove home, took a shower, cleaned up my wounds and applied ice. It took a couple hours for my lip to stop bleeding!

Today I have the worst headache, my lip is still seeping blood and I am going to the dentist to see if he can work some magic with my tooth. The inside of my mouth is cut and sensitive. It is impossible to eat - so I think it may be a liquid diet today.

Regardless, I feel pretty positive, but my body isn't quite there with my mind! Think today will be a quiet day at home. We will see what tomorrow brings. Now that things have settled down, I really could use a hug. Sometimes living alone sucks!

    Ow! emoticon But look at so many people who stopped to help you on your journey when you slipped! And they wouldn't take no for an answer!! =) I think it's a beautiful metaphor for your progress. Don't let them down by giving up! You're a fellow fitness person to them, and to us!!

    Wow, I am so sorry to hear about your fall and so glad you were not hurt worse than you were. But my husband always says that tooth pain is the worst. I'm so glad that there were people there to help you! I know it just our instinct to say we're fine when something happens, I think it just the embarrassment and not wanting to call attention to ourselves. But obviously they could tell by looking at you that you were not OK and I am glad you did not have to ride back to your car. Hang in there!

    My co-worker's son did something similar yesterday, so it must have been a bad day for front teeth! So sorry to hear you chipped your tooth, but it is amazing what they can do. One of my front teeth got chipped when I had surgery done (they weren't very careful with the intubation tube) and my dentist got it fixed up so you can't even tell.

    I live alone too, so I know how much it can suck. {hug}
