Less tube and screen time!!!!

Friday, April 26, 2013

After reading the article on how TV affects our lives, I started to watch my family (and myself) to see exactly how much tube time and screen time we were getting. Let me just say that it wasn't good. Not by a long shot! The amount of time that we were giving to a screen (whether it was television, phones, or laptops) was so crazy that honestly, I'm ashamed. I've informed my family that there has to start being less tube and screen time and more activity going on. I was met with confused stares by my husband and son. "But, that's how I relax when I get home from work..." "But Mom, what am I going to do?!?!?! I'll be sooooo bored!" You should have seen their faces when I said that we're going to be spending more time together as a family by doing active things such as bike riding, going on walks, or even just going out and geocaching. You would have thought I had asked them to swim in a shark infested tank! It's going to be a rough haul to get them going and if I'm going to be honest, it's going to be hard for ME to stop myself from plopping down on the couch to surf some channels or to surf the internet...but it has to be done. I know that in the end, we'll be better for it, not just from the health benefits, but as it stands now, our "spending time together" is sitting in the living room together playing on our laptops. Sad, I know....

Great idea! I only record two shows a week (yes, I have a VCR!) and I fast forward thru the commercials. Other than that, I do not watch TV. On the computer and Iphone, most of it is business and, of course, SP! I find I have a lot more time to exercise and pay attention to what I am eating! I assure you the withdrawal symptoms do not last that long!
