“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’ To this day, especially in times of ‘disaster,’ I remember my mother’s words, and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers - so many caring people in this world.” — Mister Rogers
I am a New Englander by birth, upbringing, and nature so today's tragedy in Boston was vivid because I know the streets, I know the feeling of the place.
And here at Spark People we know so many people who are running marathons--both literally and figuratively.
I have been afraid to turn on the television but I have read some of the news accounts. And there are helpers. That is the only consolation. But helpers there are.
The news can be a dangerous place but we cannot turn our back on it. With whatever words or gestures of thanksgiving you may have, think of the helpers.
