Spring Break and a Funeral

Wednesday, April 10, 2013

Not quite the same as the movie title.

Hello everyone. During BLC 17 I went from 348.8 down to 331.6 so I managed, in 8 weeks to lose 17.2 pounds. Not too shabby, could have been better, could definitely have been worse.

Then it was over. I guess I got so overwhelmed with student teaching, not having a kitchen, not having time, spring break, comprehensive exams, and to top everything off, one of the girls in my program was in a car accident and passed away last week.

So all of that combined means I'm sitting somewhere around 340 right now. I think. I weighed yesterday morning with clothes (which I normally don't) and after breakfast (which I normally don't) and I was at 342. So in the 4ish (can't be bothered to count right now) weeks since the end of the BLC, I've managed to GAIN 8ish pounds.

Now, I know this isn't the end of the world. All of my clothes still fit, but I feel like a complete failure. I know now that I just need to hop back on, but it is SO HARD. I really just want to wait until I'm done with teaching in 3 weeks, but I realize now, that that is just an excuse. This next BLC is *exactly* what I need to get back into it.

I don't know if I will be a leader this time around, I'd love to be, but I don't know if they need me for this one. The nice thing is I will only be busy for the first 3 weeks of the BLC, then I'll be free to better fulfill the leadership role! :) Even if I'm not officially a leader, you can expect I will be posting on your walls and commenting on your blogs! So keep em' comin'

I know some see me as a motivation (though I don't see myself that way) so I wanted you to know that it is not always perfect, and the scale does not always go down. But I'm at the point right now where I could just decide to quit and balloon back up to almost 400 pounds, or KEEP GOING and who knows where I'll be. Even if I don't lose another pound for the next 3 months, at LEAST I will not have gained any!

On a slightly happier note, I'm doing the Monument Avenue/Ukrops 10k in Richmond (VA) This weekend! I convinced my boyfriend to do it with me, my goal is between a 16 and 17 min mile. Last year my mile time was almost 19 min. My best time ever was 16:45 min/mile That was when I was 290ish about 4 years ago. (This is my 4th year doing it) So if I can get under 100 minutes, I will be ecstatic! I ran a 13.4ish min/mile for the BLC 17 fitness test, but that was giving it everything I had for 1 solid mile. This is 6.2, so I need to be more reasonable. We shall see. Pat (the bf)'s job is to keep me on my time. He is 6'2" and 170ish so he should have no problem (that twig! :P I kid, I love him :) )

Anyway, sorry for the long update, but it was well overdue. I graduate will my Master's in exactly 1 month on May 10th!!! :D

Anna, I can understand your frustration at the setback, but it will be short-lived. I'm so glad that you are leading again this season, and to be leading with you! I also understand the stress you've been under. I'm gearing up to propose my PhD thesis next week (yes, next WEEK! :0). Three more weeks! Hang in there, kid. You're almost there.

Awesome about the run times and the upcoming run in VA! I envy your feet right now. I'm finally back to being able to run short bursts (perfect for the kickball team I just joined, woohoo) but I still can't run a mile for the pain. Starting physical therapy soon to see if that will help. So, take care of those feet! :D

Again, hang in there and don't forget to breathe deeply. Take gentle care of yourself. Be forgiving. In the grand scheme of things, it was 8 pounds. You've got this. You're a winner. Don't forget it! :) :)

Yes you are a leader! :-) You did a great job last season and I'm proud of your progress! I'm glad each of us found this game when we did and hopefully the future seasons will help us continue further on.

And Holly is back thank goodness! :-D
