Back from California, the land of food! Part 2!

Monday, April 08, 2013

I just got back from two weeks in California teaching a Spring Break workshop at my old work. I forgot how exhausting it is teaching kids all day on your feet. Even though I ate healthy for breakfast and lunch and walked at least 12000 steps a day I still don't think I did very well in the weight department. I just got back on Friday so I haven't weighed myself yet. My friend also got into town on Friday so we've been entertaining her by eating out all the time. I'm trying to get back into my home routine but I'm feeling jet-lagged and worn out in general.
This week will be my first time going to Lululemon's running club. It's on Tuesday and tomorrow we are planning to go to museums and do other touristy things around Chicago. So more walking, but also more eating out. Tuesday Lindsey goes home so I'm throwing myself back into it.
Running club Tues, Gym Wed, Museum Thurs, Gym Fri, Weigh In Saturday
PLUS: no beer, saladsaladsalad and 8 glasses of water per day.
I've been feeling really dehydrated since getting back from CA and have been getting lots of headaches. So I'm going to start seriously trying to get 8 glasses every day this week.
Hoping to beat the work/travel bloat and be down by 2 lbs from my last weigh in this Saturday. At least then I can say I've lost 10 pounds this year. That'd be great!
Ken wants to start walking to the gym which is good, but I'm going to try and convince him to start running with me by running to and from the gym. It's one mile each way so that will get us there and back faster along with helping me train for my 5k (18 days!) and the half marathon in September.
It'd be awesome if he ended up running it with me. I really want us to share some sort of physical hobby together (shut up) but he wasn't interested in any of my suggestions.

Anyway, I'm back, I've been thinking about SP while I was running myself ragged in CA and I'm glad I pushed myself to write a blog. The longer I go without checking in, the guiltier I feel so I go longer without checking in. It's a vicious cycle!

I think this week I'm also going to switch back to skim dairy milk in lieu of almond milk. I really do think I'm one of those people who loses more weight by consuming fat free dairy, as it's helped in the past.
I'm also going to start planning our meals out for the week. I think it will help if I know what I have to make so I can plan for it. More fish for me, more meatless protein for him.
Does anyone have any tips for meal planning? I was thinking of getting a magnetic calendar and writing them on the fridge. That way I could also write the ingredients.
I'm used to making meal plans for the people I cook for but I'm not very good at doing it for myself. Weird, right?
Ok, well I think I'm going to try and sleep now, as this headache does not want to go away, no matter what I do!

I know some people do well with "exact" meal plans (main, veggie, etc.) but I sometimes just keep lists of ingredients up. (So a proteins page, a veggies page, a fruits page, staples like rice/quinoa etc..). Then if I don't feel like having exactly what I planned for the day, I might make a switch in a veggie or something. This is more difficult if you want to add meals that are more like casseroles/soups/etc...but it helps me remember what's in the frig/cabinets to get inspiration daily.

Good luck with the reset & the meal planning! I still haven't been able to really get into meal planning; I think part of it is because I don't have a set schedule.
