Last night was the finale of the Winter Trivia League. Out of 69 teams, our team came in 2nd overall (this has been going on since January) which means we automatically go into the finals. Finals are April 20th. I don't know if we will go to watch the semi-finals where other teams try to compete for a chance to go to the finals.
I'm a bit thrilled honestly--I am the only old, fat lady in the Trivia league. Mostly there are earnest young men playing. You know that kind of young man I mean--the kind who are gawky but who can solve a Rubik's cube in one second. The kind who are geeky yet who have every sports stat memorized. I'm good for saying which President was at Harvard in 1904***** and that kind of deeply historical question.
It was FDR. I did not know it but I knew that Harry Truman had not been to college and that DDE was at West Point and the only one who worked in terms of being of college age in 1904 would have been FDR. Now my teammates might have guessed Nixon or Franklin Pierce....and thought that they were excellent guesses. One of the dubious benefits of age.
