Very Interesting article on weight loss surgery and body image

Wednesday, March 20, 2013

I think what SparkPeople does is give us the tools to become both physically and emotionally healthy at the same time. As I shed my pounds, I shed the mental and emotional abuse that led me down the path of emotional eating. Every workout, every time I ate salad rather than mac and cheese, or a sandwich rather than a bag of Oreos, I was making a conscience choice to take care of myself. Ny choice to become healthy was not selfish, was not because of what someone else did, or because a friend had suddenly become skinnier than me, no matter what my ex-husband's voice in my head said. I choose to be healthy because I am not worthless. Quite the opposite. I am full of worth. I am creative, funny and loving, as well as being strong and sexy.

What do y'all think?

I'm with you - I think weight loss is something that can't really stick until you do decide to do it for yourself. Not that it won't benefit other people in your life, but it has to be about you being ready and wanting something better and feeling that you DESERVE something better for yourself first.

Thanks for sharing! I love the idea of weight loss surgery, but hate the fact that these people don't get the real help they need to live in a healthy manner. Being healthy is so much more than a number on a scale! That is the wonderful think about Spark!!! If you engage in the process and really be true to yourself on your own journey, you will get there :)
