So I was supposed to run in my first 5k race. However, the weather forecast had changed from 36 and sunny to 30 and rainy/snowy so Katy and I decided to skip this one. We had also agreed that we would both run 5ks indoors today instead.
However I spent most of my day in the ER.
I felt fine when I woke up and had been moving around for about 25 minutes, making us some brunch when my ribs on the left side of my back started to hurt really badly. It hurt so much for no reason that I thought it must be gas or a pinched nerve- I hadn't done anything to make it hurt so much.
After a while it started to hurt so much that I decided I had to go to the hospital. Even if it was just something stupid, I needed relief and reassurance that I hadn't accidentally hurt a lung or something.
So we went to the hospital and they did an X-ray and basically just decided that I had an inflamed muscle that was pressing against my shoulder blade. They gave me some pain meds and told me to take it easy.
So, needless to say, no 5k for me today. Or tomorrow, or for a while. :(
I'm pretty frustrated that this may impact my workout plans for next week, but I'm also optimistic. I'm hoping that taking today and tomorrow to rest and take the muscle relaxers will be enough that I can at least do some more low-impact exercises at the gym next week.
I still want to keep training to run, but obviously I overdid it somehow because I'm still in excruciating pain.
Even with the valium and Motrin 800s, I'm in rough shape.
But I'm happy to say I've stuck with all of my streaks this week anyway. I made to day my free day since it's been so rough, but the rest of the week has been great. I went to the gym four times, ate salads, had no beer or junk food and logged all my foods.
Tomorrow, depending on my back, I'm hoping to walk a little bit on the treadmill desk but definitely want to eat really healthy.
The only good thing to come out of this is that it forces me to catch up on school work!
