A new habit

Saturday, March 02, 2013

For my cats 5% challenge, we plan to blog daily this week:

Here is the assignment: Living the Good Life – Blogging and Feedback - theme new habit. Earn 5 points for each day you post a blog - maximum 5 points daily.

1) What new habit you wish to develop?

I would like to try to be in bed, reading, by 11:30 PM. Firstly, I would like to do more reading. Secondly, I seem to have my eating in hand except for some irrational stabs at unnecessary food late at night. Thirdly, knowing that I become less controlled and less rational when I am tired, being in bed with a book is the best place for me.

Finally: once I am in bed my innate laziness would prevent me from getting up even if I was told that an exciting Italian gelato array was in an adjacent room.

This sounds like an awesome goal, "doable"!!! So, I could read up on my spiritual books. I have been trying to read the "Bible" completely through and study it. So, I have the book called, "The Story". I think it is by the same people, or associates of, etc., the same people who produced, "The Bible", which is currently showing on the History channel, every Sunday, and concluding, on Easter. So, once I'm I bed, I'll just drink on some healthful drink, but then, I'll have to get up and go to the bathroom! Oh well, at least I'll be getting my adequate water intake! emoticon

You always make me smile - thank you!
New habit? Let's see: not nibbling while cooking; that would be a good one.

Excellent plan! May I also suggest reading non-fiction at night? If the book has a plot, I find I stay up way too late. emoticon

Great blog.....and great suggestion (altho' I'd be in bed long before 11:30).

It's a strategy that works.....except......if you go into 'auto-mode' ..... and leave the comfort of your bed for just that 'one little snack' --- that turns into a binge.
If I could glue my body to my bed --- and really lose myself into my book - I'd be a happy, and thinner, camper.
Night eating is probably the worst eating habit you can have ---- and one of the hardest to break!
But ----- this is as good a suggestion that I can think of.
So --- Off with the TV - and on with the Kindle!! (I'm currently reading a biography of Thomas Jefferson.....good to fall asleep to!!)

Good luck to all.....and thanks, Joan!

This is very insightful. I think this is very applicable in my life. Except for, I need to go to bed earlier than 11:30pm. lol Otherwise I would be crabby in the morning.

*laughs* laziness can be a good thing then!!

A warm comfy bed and a book is not to be left!

Irrational? Maybe. But late-night eating has a physiological component... Being tired increases hormones that say "Feed Me!!"

Your solution is perfect whether the eating is rational, irrational, emotional, habitual, or physiological. And anything that lets you read more is A Good Thing in my book. :-)

made me laugh so much! and am sure the cats lolling around you while you read would also look disgruntled if you rose up to sneak a snack...Another disincentive. Know mine would....

This is a wonderful goal. I think I need to be inspired by this, since I rarely get ready to sleep until about 1 in the morning!

This is definitely one of the habits that I need to cultivate. I think you'll feel the difference in yourself when you start practicing this.

Hey, I totally agree and want the same thing. I almost said I would join you but then I realized that sounded completely weird. What I mean is that I would do the same thing not crawl in bed with you and your book .................totally weird. Hypoxia from the pneumonia has destroyed my brain.
