An Update

Oh boy has it been while! The past month has been the most hectic. Early February I traveled to Toronto for my sister-in-laws baby shower. Our first niece/nephew is due in a couple weeks and I'm SOOOOO excited about it!! Our lease ended on the 17th so we got everything moved to our new house which was 99% complete. The part that wasn't? The septic system. We spent four days with only shower and sink usage. This past weekend it was operational enough to use toilets but hadn't been inspected. Our contractor said we could go ahead and use them though and he'd tell the inspector it was workers who didn't know it wasn't usable. This past Monday it was finally inspected and approved. Now I can actually do all the laundry and dishes that were piling up!!

During this transition time, we pretty much threw food consideration out the window. We ate out a fair bit, some Subway but also pizza and mornings of breakfast tacos and french toast (not the same day, don't panic). So this morning I was SHOCKED to step on the scale (first time in weeks) and see that i'm down 10lbs since Christmas. Yeah, I know - it's because of the moving, unpacking and just generally keeping busy.

We haven't been exercising or skiing much but last month we started a meal plan. A friend was telling me she saw it on Groupon so I checked it out. It's called the Fresh 20. http://www.thefresh20.com/
Each plan provides you with 5 dinners for the week, recipes, a shopping list and nutritional info. It's theoretically only about 20 items you need to buy for a week and has really cut our grocery cost. It's also fairly fresh and healthy meals. Each recipe makes 4 (sometimes more) servings which have all been around 500 calories or less. Taking left overs for lunch has worked perfectly for the two of us. We're on the "classic" plan which consists of three meat meals, one seafood and one vegetarian but there's also gluten free and vegetarian options. A year of plans cost $49 (which I have saved multiple times over with a reduced grocery bill). Or you can get a three month subscription for $15. They also have a lunch plan but since it's the two of us, leftovers work great. Example of the meal plans: Sweet potato turkey tacos, shrimp red beans rice & spaghetti squash, black bean & sweet potato tortilla casserole, sweet sausage and spaghetti squash, and taco salad with creamy avocado dressing and homemade tortilla chips. Each week usually has some sort of theme with ingredients being used in multiple meals. Can't say I've had a complaint about the meals themselves. Some are just ok, maybe a bit bland but others have been really good! Nothing i've hated. Having a plan to stick to has really helped me ensure i'm eating well and get the right portions. Can't say enough good things about this!!

Back to my weight. I actually had to do a double-take this morning when I saw 162.4 on the scale. This is the lightest i've been in at least four years. Like I said, i'm down 10lbs since Christmas, down 17lbs since our wedding day three years ago (this hurts me inside) and am only 7lbs heavier than when my husband and I first met. I'm still 24lbs heavier than my lightest EVER five years ago but at least I can see a change. At least i'm getting closer!

    So much exciting news! A new house, a new niece/nephew, and success with the scales--doesn't get much better than that!

    I think sometimes if we (even unconsciously) do the things that we know bring success (exercise--carrying boxes up and down steps counts and don't go crazy with food) and don't get on the scales 6 times a day, we will see a pleasant surprise. I bet that's what happened in your case.
