Joining a "Tri" Group... for a "Du!"
Tuesday, February 26, 2013
It was kind of a hard decision for me, but today I joined a new, 10-week triathlon group - but I'm training for a duathlon instead! The coach is the head coach for the running group I've used off & on, and she's the one that helped me get through my panic attack while preparing for my 1st sprint triathlon 2 years ago.
I missed yesterday, which was a discussion about swimming... since I won't be swimming! But, I made it today for our first bike ride.
First of all, I was expecting 20 or so people... are running group is about that size. But, there were only 6 of us! And, 1 didn't have a bike so she just stuck around until it was time to ride.
We discussed bike fit & clothing & a few other things, and then we went for a ride. It was a short loop - just short of 4 miles. We did it twice as a group. The hard part? The WIND!!! Yesterday's gusts were up to 30 mph!!! So, thankfully it has calmed down. But, they were still expected to be about 17 or 18 mph. WOW!! It's tough riding into those kinds of winds!
When we finished our 2 laps, I was happy that 2 of the ladies wanted to do one more... so the 3 of us took off & completed our 3rd lap! My goal for the day (actually for EACH day the rest of this week) was to burn 400 calories. And, I did it! I actually burned 437 according to my Garmin.
I need to run by the store & buy a few things. The plug thing on the tip of my handlebars is now missing. How DOES that happen?!? And, I can't find my regular cycling gloves, though I used the ones with fingers today because it was in the 40's. The coach also suggested I move my seat a little lower. And, I have a new cycling computer (from Christmas) that I need to install or have installed.
Tomorrow? I need to run, which I've been avoiding! And, I'll probably lift weights, too!
