I suspect that the French are revelling in this new gustatory delight--the McCamembert. In Japan you can ordere an "EBI Filet-O" (a shrimp burger). In Italy there's a "Filetto di Pesce" or you can also order the "McPink". It's a pork sandwich for those who do not want beef.

In India, out of respect for the sacred cow, you can order a "Maharaja Mac" which is a chicken burger. You can get a Big Mac in Spain if you do not want the McIberica.

But speaking of the hamburguesa, I have read about a recent fatality: there's a "Heart Attack Grill" in Las Vegas where you can order "flatliner fries" and a "Quadruple Bypass".

Their intent is to serve "nutritional pornography". And in doing so, I think that they play on the very uneasy American relationship with bad foods. The owner of the "Heart Attack Grill" says that "It's a lifestyle issue. We attract the avant-garde of lifestyle-seekers". How thrilling to be referred to as cosmopolitan, as a member of the "avant-garde" it must be.

And in case you think I am simply and smugly lashing out, consider this: I am only one bad day or bad mood away from fleeing to the McDonald's or Wendy's near me and ordering a sodium laden Mac something. I must KNOW the enemy. I do not critique those who succumb to the aroma and the taste and the hit, even when, at the very same time, they know it's a bad choice.
Yes, me too.

    Like chocolate, sometimes a big, juicy hamburger is just too hard to resist. But I definitely won't be going to the "Heart Attack Grill" when I visit Las Vegas this week! I looked at a photo of that burger and quickly went to a different web page so that I didn't catch any fat calories by just looking!

    Not only are the actual nutritional reality of these foods absolutely without "nutritional" value but having worked at both McDonalds and Burger King many, many years ago, what goes on in those places is enough to not visit frequently. In some ways when I do ago, I have to have a type of amnesia or disassociation to forget about some of the things I've seen. I guess you could say that for all restaurants. It is just helpful to have one more reason in the arsenal NOT to visit the Mickey D's!

    Last time I had a Big Mac, I had such a bad stomache ache and terrible gas afterwards, it put me off of them...hopefully forever. Luckilly the Wendy's Chili is pretty tasty and not too terrible....ya know, for those times when you have to have fast food. Sometimes cheap and conveinent is what you need. Just not every day - I measure time inbetween stops in Months.

    I don't do the mac but because I am vegetarian not healthy (lots of lovely vegetarian junkfood like pizza is my love rather than fries...)... Me and my daughter were though stunned when visiting the US last year when she (a vegetarian fries lover but because of my frown will order a veg burger to go with them) asked to stop at a macdonalds one evening and was told they do not have salad burgers as they do in South Africa or anything vegetarian. The salad burger (a roll/pita filled with lettuce, tomato cucumber and dressing) was introduced here just after the movie Super Size me went on circuit. It was a direct response to the movie being released and all the publicity around it here and I can't understand why the movie did not elicit the same response in the US. For those who haven't seen it, very worth while as it shows the effects of eating macdonalds all the time not only on weight but on things like kidneys... and very graphically focuses on the addictive nature of carbs and fats

    Ya, did you every see "Man verses Food"?? I always wonder how long will it take for him to die of a heart attack!! And not to mention the stress he puts on his body gorging on foods that will kill you in a short amount of time!

    I remember the first time my mom, packed us in the car and we went to McDonalds and I had my first Big Mac, I was in love....can't say I recall the last time I had one, after learning of how terrible the stuff is I haven't had one since.

    And I wonder why my corated (spelling) arteries are 50% blocked....

    Yeah, the heart attack grill is so over the top...

    But as an American ex-pat, I'd have to say that every time I go back for a visit, I'm startled by the smaller things. Like a bottomless drink. Or like trying to find a small coffee that's actually less than 20 ounces.

    Read this right on the heels of reading about the *Heart Attack Grill* man. We Americans do have an uneasy relationship with food-on the one hand, we are bombarded with ads and other marketing for fast food and other chemically laden *frankenfoods*, and on the other we are inundated with studies and doctors that warn us about such foods, along with coffee, chocolate, etc. We should eat this...then we shouldn't...this is bad...now it isn't...this causes cancer...now it cures it. It is terribly confusing. And I say this as a person who ate at a fast food restaurant earlier this evening! It's very difficult to get away from all of it.

    I've gradually given up all fast food. I found out that most of it contains gluten, even the fries, and a Big Mac without the bun is just nasty. Sometimes being gluten intolerant is a blessing.

    Interesting how far and wide we have distributed our awful way of eating. And I'm not talking about fat at all, but about all the artificial and chemical-laden crap that pretends to be food. Personally, I am not much tempted by fast food and only have it as a last resort on trips, but I do love me some chips and dip. I purposely ate very high fat today and feel very satisfied. The carbs were kept to a minimum. And I feel great! Thanks for the "geography" lesson!

    Yes. Most of us are. You are definitely not alone. Wish I could say the last time I had a "Mac-something" was a year ago when I started SP. Unfortunately, no. I need to start using that as my "sobriety" date. The last time I used the Mac.

    I hear that. The problem with being the chef-in-residence (as it were) is that I'm the chef-in-residence. I know how to make microwaveable fudge in under ten minutes.

    Then I could probably inhale it in five...
