Just call me ""Techno-Mom""!!!!!

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

I must be insane-----LOL---
You see it all started just before Xmas when I bought a new LapTop----to go with the old Desktop--computer, that is----You see--the Desktop works when it feels like it--so my theory was------get the Laptop as a back up------The problem with that theory is however, the wireless box must be in working order--AND-----the internet must be connected which seems to be a problem at times, here in the NORTH----

I used to think with all the above technology, I was pretty ""hip""----in the computer age----but----(There is always that big ""butt"")----my grown kids never phone anymore--They are all connected --by--TEXT------
So, I have learned that, to communicate with them, TEXTING --MUST be a part of my life----The old cell phone had to be tossed aside, for--an I PHONE--
Lordy Be!!!-------Son #3, the Policeman found me an IPhone4-------
The Grandkids ""Facetime"" now with me-----
That means, I can see their little faces as they talk to me.
Can you believe that?------OMG!

But---There is more------
Daughter presented me with a Kindle for Xmas-----
I just thanked her and shook my head------
Well, last night, I FINALLY turned the thing on----
It is quite amazing how fast you can get books and it comes with a lovely light--books are cheaper too--and no shipping charges----

Even my hairdresser sold me the newest version of a curling iron----It comes with steam---After reading the instructions yesterday, I decided that it really is a better way to iron the hair--

Son #4, the City Water Worker, calls me, ""Ms. IPhone""----makes me proud!! *S*
I hear there is a very nice ""IBook""--or something --out there---
It looks lighter ----and very portable---
Oh my goodness-----I wonder if my head can hold any more technology???

Anyway, it's minus 40C outside here this morning----Good Morning Sparkly friends!

We decided to replace our ancient computers a year ago, and DH suggested getting a lap-top. I went along with it. But now I use it exclusively! I love the portability!

And when my old phone stopped working, I got a smart phone. Definitely a bigger learning curve for that.

Being a grandma, I love how the technology lets me keep in touch. Just have to keep speeding down the road!

OMG! I have to laugh because that's one of the reasons I got my i-Phone 4 too -- because that's the primary way my kids communicate! Go figure.

Jason got an i-Pad for Christmas (from me) and I JUST fired it up myself last night to read! Excellent.

I guess we have to be dragged kicking and screaming into the techno age, but it's worth it -- most of the time. emoticon

What would we do without our kids to keep us up-to-date with the modern technology!! I got a new laptop in December with Windows 8 on it - now that is a new learning curve - and for Xmas I got the Nexus 7 which I haven't done too much on it and haven't read a book with it yet, but I'm getting there. They say continually learning keeps us young so I guess we're doing just that!!!

My dad can't seem to get the hang of texting, so we call or email with him. He used to use Skype when one of his step-grand daughter's lived in Amsterdam and another in Australia, but now that they are back in the US he doesn't bother. He's still a paper book kind of guy, but my step-mom loves her Nook.

I just got a new phone too, an android so it is a "smart phone" but not an IPhone. I'm still learning how to use it. emoticon

I got a KOBO e reader a few months ago, and I really enjoy it. As you said books are much cheaper and you get them immediately. Also with the KOBO I can connect with the New Brunswick library system and borrow books.

Sometimes, I think as a society we are too connected to technology, but then I realize it is such a great way to stay in touch with friends and family who are living far away from us. I have friends whose daughter and family live in New Zealand. They can Skype to stay in touch, that is important since their grand daughter is only a toddler, helps her to know who her Grammie and Grampie are.

It was -38 here this morning with the windchill, so I know what you are talking about. Stay warm and have a great day. Does shivering count as fitness points?

I let my kids get all the new techy things first and then I take the plunge...I let them work out all the kinks. Although I miss turning the pages of a REAL book, I do love my Kindle and read now more than I used to! emoticon

So do you recommend the iPhone? I've been toying with the idea.... but am a little scared of it LOL. Should I just take the plunge? All my nieces and my daughter say yes.... Should I JUST DO IT??

It's amazing, isn't it? I resist because of the cost, and then when I finally cave... it's... WOW, it can do WHAT? My Runkeeper app, and my Fitocracy App, and Google suddenly asked me "Is this where you work?" and predicts my commute time. Incredible.

Welcome to the modern age, to both of us! However, I have to say, you and I have an advantage over the kids of today... we know how to survive WITHOUT these things when the power goes out or whatever.

emoticon Spark a great day, my friend! emoticon

Loved this Blog...I am right there with you on the technology...and I also prefer the texting...I spent my whole career on the phone for the big phone company so I HATE the phone. But do you ever feel it is now moving maybe a little TOO fast? Have a great day, Lynda! I love your blos they make me smile emoticon

All I have is my daughters old lap top and it takes several tries to connect with the internet. Technology is great as it allows you to be connected to your loved ones in an instant. Keep warm up there, it is 6 degrees above in SW MI.
